so i just got my first blackberry all set up and decided to try a weather application. so i searched around and found WXSYS, a pretty good app considering its price, $0. so i play around with it a while then look at my email and i got an email in my comcast mailbox from WXSYS thanking me for downloading. So i read a little and then i think about it and realize i never gave them my comcast email. where did they get it from?

Seems the signup screen i see does ask for your email address and a confirmation of same...

i went to the site from my bb and clicked the .jad link on that page with out ever putting in my email. it's not a big deal i just wondered if downloading apps allowed them to see my email addresses, potentially leading to spam :(

I tried this application too.

Entered my Blackberry Internet Service address in the field to send me the link for the download. Came through no problem.

Then about 3 minutes later, a welcome email to my work address via the BES connection. Completely different address.

They are hooked up somehow and I am not so sure I like it. I better not get slammed with spam. Not so sure I like the application anyway. It is simply NWS data parsed out for a mobile screen.

If you download some applications they automatically send a "notification" email to their servers from your default email account. I would recommend connecting with that software company inquiry about their privacy policies, use of your email, etc.

Yeah very weird, I also visited the link above downloaded the app...and about 10 minutes later thanking me for downloading. I did not enter email in the box just clicked the jad link, that's a first for me. BTW app is useless IMO.

You agree to permit WXSYS Corporation to collect and utilize this information, but only for the purposes of administering your subscription and processing and delivering your WXSYS services via the Application. This information will not otherwise be sold, shared, or distributed to third parties without your express permission (we hate spammers too)!
