| Can you do anything at all with 802.11 without a UMA plan? Please Login to Remove! Good afternoon!
If I get an 802.11-enabled Blackberry (e.g. 8320, 8820), but do NOT pay for a UMA plan, is the 802.11 connection still established and used for email and web access, or do I have to have UMA in order to transfer anything whatsoever over 802.11?
Background:
Yesterday I just swapped out the non-working "esc" switch on my trusty Blackberry 7290, again. I'm out of spare 7290s to cannibalize, and I'm thinking it might be time to get something new. T-Mobile, my carrier, wants $20/month for UMA, which is more than it's worth to me, so I'm not too excited about that. However, being able to do data over 802.11 would still be pretty useful if I can get that without paying monthly for UMA. If it won't work, though, I might as well just get one of the GPS-enabled devices instead of the 802.11 ones. |
