Just got my 8310 yesterday and have been slowly learning how to use it. This is my first Blackberry or any type of PDA phone.

I setup online to have my Yahoo email sent to my phone. It is working well however, on my main menu screen on the top left I have the "messages" envelope and new to it I have a Yahoo Mail icon. For some reason when I get mail coming in from my Yahoo acct I get notification at both icons...so the mail shows up under my Messages icon and my Yahoo Mail icon. Can I change this or stop the email from coming into my Messages icon? I'd like to be able to just have the email come into the Yahoo icon and text msgs come into the Messages icon.

Also, what is the best way to get a pic I'd like to use for my wallpaper from my laptop onto my Blackberry?

I had been using a V3 Razr prior. When I setup the Blackberry last night the tech guy said I needed to use the new SIM card. Could I have pulled the SIM card from my Razr and used it and all my phones numbers saved on the card would show up on the 8310?

You can put the old sim and get the numbers from it still!

Yes you can seperate the messages and email

Email the picture to yourself then save and add to device

For the messages folder there is not a way to prevent the me-mails from showing in the Messages folder. I would recommend that you hide the Messages folder (as long as you won't be connected to a BlackBerry Enterpise Server). Highlight the Messages folder, press the menu key, then choose Hide.

And as ezrunner said you can separate the SMS in to its own folder. This is done by going to Messages > Options > General Options.

You first question: All messages are stored in the master message folder, MMS, SMS and email from all accounts. When you create an account it creates and icon that is a filtered view or the master message folder that just shows email for that account. You can hide the Yahoo icon my going into applications and highlighting the icon and pressing Menu>Hide. Some people like the icons I just prefer to have all of my messages in one place.

For wallpaper, go the medi section and search for your device model. You will find a lot of great stuff!

On the SIM card you should be able to insert it in the BB and copy all contacts to the device.

So I guess it would make sense for me to hide the Yahoo Mail folder and have the SMS in a separate folder under "Messages"??
If I hide the "Messages" icon and keep the Yahoo icon would I still be notified if I get a SMS?

Im gonaa put the old SIM card in the phone and try to xfer the phone numbers over.

First off, goto your MESSAGES, press MENU, and hit OPTIONS. Go to general options, scroll to thr bottom and change 'SMS and EMAIL inboxes' to seperate. This will make it so you can view your SMS/MMS in a seperate icon on your desktop.

If yahoo mail is the only mail you are using, you can hide the default messages icon, and just use the Yahoo messages. You can do this by highlighting MESSAGES on your desktop, press menu, and slelect hide.

As for your SIM card question, you can use your old sim card without having any problems. But since they did give you a new sim card. You can transfer your addresses by putting in your old sim card into the phone, run Desktop Manager, and do a backup. Then insert your new sim card, and do a restore.

I did what you suggested above. I sent myself a test email from my laptop and the email still came into the Yahoo icon and the Messages icon.

What did I do wrong!?

Also, I am so new to all this...I have no idea what PIN means! LOL

PIN is a particular alpha/numeric code assigned to each BB. You can use PIN messaging to communicate directly to other BlackBerrys. Those PIN messages will come in to your main messages folder, hence the reason to hide your Yahoo folder, and keep the main messages folder visible.

You can seperate out your text messages (SMS/MMS) from the main folder, which is what takadante was explaining.
