I am new to BB, Does anyone know if it is necessary to have redirector running on PC in order to receive email on BB?

No, it isn't absolutely necessary. I used to use this method to get my work e-mails faster, though. I didn't want to add my personal BlackBerry to the BES, but I didn't want to wait the 15 minutes for polling. So I set up the account using the Redirector.
