Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan on the Curve?

If you have a BB personal plan, a.k.a. BIS, I have found that it is much easier to go to the carrier's BIS website, create your login, enter the device IMEI and PIN and then set up email from there.

I am thinking you need a BB dataplan to get the BIS access and to set up email. Don't use WiFi so I am not the expert here, however.

well originally they put the total internet plan on my phone. When i called in to add a texting plan, the CS rep said they added the wrong data plan and changed it to the BIS plan for me. does that mean because my phone was setup with total internet first, i dont have the icon? i did set up my email by logging into t-mobile's bis site. but cant seem to set it up on my phone. (plus i cant seem to figure out how to get the EDGE to show up.. it's been lowercase 'edge' from day one)

For the edge problem, pull the battery and see if that will fix it.

For the email issue, call T-Mo. Make sure you have the BB (BIS) Plan provisioned with your PIN and IMEI. Have them send the service books. You shoudl receive an activation message on your BB once that is complete. Then look for the email set up. Or better yet, get the BIS site info from the CSR, including the username and password and do it on the web via your PC. Much easier that way I think.
