Default OS v4.2.2.180 and APN Settings

Please Login to Remove!

To make a long story short, i have been having problems using applications such as BBWeather, Opera Mini, and BBSmart Email viewer. All of these applications reference the apn settings which i have as wap.voicestream.com since i am a tmo user. I have tried everything under the sun to get these apps to work but to no avail. At one point, i was able to use these applications flawlessly but the more i think about it, the more convinced i am that i was only able to do that because i was using the old OS. Does anyone have v4.2.2.180 and opera mini, BBweather, etc. working together?

I have the same OS and have the same APN setting as well. It works perfectly for me with Opera Mini. I don't have BB Weather installed.

I've used BBWeather with all the OS's and it works fine for me too.

Hi lockednatrunk,

Are you able to use the BIS connection option? Please feel free to shoot our support team an email at [email address] and they can run through a couple of connection troubleshooting steps with you.

One immediate thought is that maybe your application permissions got reset? To change these, go to Options - Advanced Options - Applications and scroll down and highlight "SmartView". Select "Edit Permissions" from the menu and for all 3 permissions (Connections, Interactions, User Data) set the permission to "Allow".

Cheers,
eZ.

Thanks for the replies!

I am glad to know that some are actually able to use 4.2.2.180 with Opera Mini, BBSmart Email Viewer, etc. I just wish i was able to, lol.

I have tried everything to resolve this issue and nothing seems to work. My email works, the phone works, the internet works (using BB Browser), but the applications that require the correct apn settings will not. The permissions are all set to "allow" so that can't be it.

Any other thoughts?

I have tried deleting all of the applications (the ones that didn't work), re-entering my apn settings, and re-installing the apps, all while doing battery pulls in between. Nothing seems to work. I would really like to get this resolved but i am at my wit's end.

Yep, sms, email, phone, BB browser, everything works except for the apps that require the apn stuff.

You say you have a bad feeling about this...that doesn't make me feel any better, lol.

once you're done with the wipe and reinstall OS and send service books and check APN settings etc, try to install your apps one at a time see what goes down..

never give up on your BlackBerry!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

What is the easiest way to wipe the handheld? I take it this will completely remove all data from the phone so I should backup anything I have saved on here?

Check out the superb BlackBerry FAQs in Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ - there are pages there on how to wipe out and reload the BlackBerry. It's very good.

same issue here with 8310 and any third party apps that require net access

rim browser, blackberrymaps and googlemaps all work fine.

opera mini won't connect, you can see the packet requests go out on the network icon (top right) but none come back.

just spent an hour on the phone to a helpful guy a tmob, tried everything under the sun... no joy.

i'm also beginning to think something is broken with http connections on the 8310 with BIS (os version: v4.2.2.146).... our own application is crashing when attempting to create the http object - the same code runs perfectly on 8100, 8800, 8300 and 8700.

[ps - wiped the os this morning, completely flattened to 507 messsage and then reinstalled with a clean version of the os dloaded from blackberry.com, didn't fix the issue]
