Default Windows Mobile to blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

... I have a i-730 basically windows mobile user.... version 5...
and I'm tired of the freezing... lagging getting to programs.... memory hogging... apps.. etc.... My two year stint is about to be up with verizon...I have a choice of staying with Windows Mobile unlikely or going with a blackberry pearl

what is the best blackberry device out of the 4 below?
What applications does blackberry offer that are similar to Windows Mobile?
Will I be able to use the phone as a modem to acess the internet if I have the unlimited data plan?
I have verizon... has anyone done this.... ?

Available BlackBerry Devices Offered by Verizon
1). 8703e
2). 8830
3). 8130
4). 7130e

can anyone point me in the right direction?
much appreciated....

Best of the four? The best two are the 8130 and the 8830. They are different form factors, you will need to decide between them yourself. The 8703 is great too, very sturdy.
For your questions:
--Lots of applications available. I don't know what WM has. Search the Aftermarket Software section here for the apps like you need, and ask back afterwards if you don't find something specific you need.
--Yes. Tethering.
--Yes, on VZ.

Good luck.

You're simply not going to find the selection of applications available for the Blackberry. Figure out what you need and, as JSanders suggested, check here for anything comparable. If you're an "app freak" you'll be disappointed.

As for a piece of hardware, the BB is great. Best PDA phone I've ever had and I've had many. In your original post you speak about getting a Pearl. Not all the phones on your list are Pearls. I'd agree with JSanders (again) that the 8130 and 8830 are your best bets. The most obvious difference between them is that one has a full QWERTY keyboard and the Pearl uses its Suretype entry system. It's a matter of personal preference and screen size.

Were you using an Exchange Server with your i730? I was. It's a hosted Exchange Server and I added BES service to it for my Blackberry. Flawless. So far, I ain't lookin' back.

Default BlackBerry Functionality

Hey right now I use the I-730 with an think outside .... bluetooth keyboard...
windows mobile 5.... the software sucks... It does not connect to exchange....just downloads e-mails from gmail....
I would like the new device i choose to be able to use this bluetooth keyboard...
Also have a bluetooth head set... that I would like to use it...
As far as apps.... I need to be able to have e-mail from a pop3 like gmail ... to be download automatically...

I would like to somehow export contact information from the windows mobile device .... and import it into the blackberry...
I work with the Bes here at work ... it sits on sql server
Would I be able to use MySql ...phpmyadmin to create...etc...interact with the blackberry..device.. I guess I have a lot of research...
thanks guys for all your input... much appreciated....
How difficult is it to tether yoru blackberry... with your laptop of choice... I also have to get in touch with verizon tech support to make sure they allow this... I'm sure they are pushing the air cards... I believe i should be able to use the phone as a modem to get to the internet if I have unlimited data . the plan i have now with the windows mobile device i 730... had difficulties... tethering the device......

let me know your thoughts guys.....

It won't use the same BT Keyboard. The earpiece should be ok.

Email no problem, BB does it best. BES, yes.
You can tether, yes.

You should go check out the devices yourself. If you can live with Suretype then the 8130 would be the answer. If you want QWERTY, then its the 8830 or the 8703.

I have a BT keyboard I use from time to time, great to have. I just recall, there are two models, one for BB and the other.

or you can do what i did, i cancelled my verizon and switched to tmobile to get a blackberry curve. the phone was free after rebate and i got to keep my number for no addtional fee, its costing me 120/mo for 2 blackberrys and 700 min for me and my wife. which is less than i was paying verizon with a 20% employee discount
