I am planning to buy a curve 8320 next week. However there are certain issues that are keeping my mind busy. I did a search in the forum but did not get satisfied. I'd be glad if you answer these questions briefly.

1) I heard that in the year 2008, new BB devices with entirely new OS will be presented. Is this true? If so, should i wait for these new generation devices or will it be possible to upgrade my curve 8320 to this new OS?

2) Is it possible to receive gmail e-mails directly to the phone without logging on etc.?

3) Are there enough 3rd party software?

4) Does it have enough memory to make the device run decently? Will i experience long pauses or crashes while running programs?

5) Does it get scratched easily?

6) Is it possible to view/edit office files within the device?

7) Will it be possible to record videos with a new software update or is it hopeless? Also is it possible to watch divx on this device?

1. new devices will be out, but details on them are still just rumors. and id like to think our curves would be upgradable..i wouldnt sweat it

2. blackberrys have push email..so ur gmail email will be sent to the device without u doing anything at all

3. theres tons of 3rd party software...what did u want?

4. theres enough memory. most users see no crashes or hangups like u would find on WM

5. i havent seen any scratches yet..and i dont use a case or protector at all..just keep it in my pocket

6. you can view...you can buy editors

7. the new 4.3 update will allow curves to record video

All ^^ said is correct. I might add that the new OS is not far off, but just an update. You will be fine to buy now. Gmail works seamlessly for instant push to the BlackBerry.

Get a holster and a screen protector immediately, search the board here for 'protector' and you'll have some good recommendations. I use "ScreenPatronus" and like them. You will regret it, eventually if you don't.

on the subject of OS when they do put out upgrades whats involed in doing that. is it a simple download instal using DM or is it a million step pull your hair out process. do you loose your info when doing it or does it keep it. does it cost money or are the upgrades free?

Thanks for all the answers. You've been extremely helpful. I'd like to ask another question which may amuse you a bit. Since i've never had a BB before i can be considered completely ignorant. So please do not get me wrong but these devices have vibrating alert right ? And some basic telephone functions like mp3 ringtones and caller pictures etc. ?

And also does the 8320 include a built in gps device or just the maps ?

mp3= yes
caller pictures= yes
maps only 8310 has gps not 8320

its a very simple procedure, theres plenty of info around here.
the upgrades are always free.
and your phone is restored to exactly the same state it was in before the upgrade :D
