Default 8320 Opera Mini Inquiry

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all, so far, I am loving the Curve. I have had some issues that I was reminded of just by reading the forums today. My SIM card latch doesent seem as secure, I do have to reboot here and there, and my tethering works sometimes, and it doesent sometimes. All bearable to some degree.

With these minor issues, I am still debating a huge decision...should I go with Opera Mini? Last thing I want is some app conflicts..so (though it may be obvious), I would like to hear from those who have downloaded and are using Opera on what I should look out for to make sure there are no conflicts or tweaking etc.,

From what I gather, Opera Mini does wonders for browsing, I just dont want headaches if I can avoid them.

Thanks..

Another thing, I know it is an upgrade to browsing, and some of you may not want to answer this..but what are the pros...and CONS?

Thanks..

First, I would check that sim card again. It takes some considerable force to lock the sim card latchc completely. It almost feels like it's going to break. Make sure you are latching it completely. That will likely fix those issues.

Opera Mini doesn't conflict with anything. Download it and try it out. There's nothing to lose.

One legimate con with Opera Mini is it does not support file downloads; it will kick you out to the native BB browser for those.

On a more subjective view of cons: Opera Mini is a steaming pile when it comes to playing nice on BBs. Despite APN settings and various other tweaks, it mostly boils down to phase-of-the-moon for whether or not it connects to a site or not. I have long given up with on it and uninstalled it as it is completely unreliable for me (and several other people at my company). They don't seem to want to help, either, blaming it on APN settings. I think the real problem is they are a Java MIDLet with minimal tweaks to run on a BB since they support multiple platforms, so they haven't really gone the extra mile to really ensure they are doing their connectivity the way BBs expect. YMMV.

My beef with Opera Mini on my Curve is that it occasionally stops connecting to any site at all, even though the BB browser does work. A battery pull always puts things right again.

Has anybody else experienced this?

i downloaded Opera about 3 days ago and so far so good. Version 4.0

i just like the full browser and also that when you open a page you have the option to zoom in on what part of the page youd like to see first. also feels a little faster with vertain pages.

Like John Clark said...got nothing to loose ... can always delete it

It is for those above reasons that I am debating it. Some say its seamless..and some have justifiable beefs with it. This seems to be on-going. Makes the decision that much harder.

Although I like Opera Mini, I have stopped using it for this exact reason. It will occasionally stop connecting on my Pearl 8130. At that, nothing will connect for me and I have to restart the device to get my data connection back.

like i said i have only used it for 3 days. but the person that told me about it uses it regularly and has never experienced a lock up or any issues.

downloading it took no time. nothing will be effected by it if you do. and if you experience any issues can always just delete it and go on with the regular browser.

I will report any issues if i get any.

I am debating downloading Opera Mini also. I have read about it on many people's "must have apps" lists but never heard any pros or cons like in this thread.

I will keep my eye on this thread until I get a chance to try it out and see if I have any of these issues. I have not yet for the two weeks I've had my BB Curve (T-Mobile) had to do a battery pull and I would hate to have to do that often.

Thanks for the remarks on Opera Mini so far.

Unlike some other applications I have tried, Opera Mini does not seem to interfere with the data connection of any other program. So I think there's no downside to trying it out.

Definitely worth a try. I'm using v 4.0.98. I find that it actually is more reliable than the BB browser when I'm on Edge. I primarily use BB browser, but when a site will not load I go to Opera or if I want the full page I use it. Some WAP pages are just useless.

OK..this may be the answer....I may never get it...

I had no problem downloading it, but it wont install. Cant connect to the Internet. Minor hiccup probably.

Does anyone else have pros and cons?

Been tried, trust me. And it still fails to load most of the time. And it also works some of the time, even without the APN settings. And the errors in Alt-LGLG don't give enough info to figure out why it is failing.

Does anyone know how to make Opera Mini the default browser? So other programs open it instead of the main BB browser. Opera is soooo much better!!

Default opera mini as wifi browser??

I'd like to use opera mini as a wifi browser as well. It is entirely possible?
Tried all different settings will not work unless it is on wap.
Thanks and Merry Xmas to everyone on the Forum for all your continued
support.
