Default No one can hear me talking- I hear them-great signal - 12-19-2007, 08:08 PM

Out of nowhere today I had a bog problem come up.

When I make a call the person picks up and I can hear them as plain as day but they cannot hear me at all.

This is not a static or in and out service problem- it is like my microphone does not work.

Has anyone seen this before?

I am screwed as of nmow as my phone is useless, any help is appreciated.

I have tried the battery pull and shut down with no success.

TIA,
JP

Its drastic but if it was me I would wipe the device and reinstall the OS. If that fails I would exchange it.

My guess is that you've dropped your phone. Even a very small drop to a carpet can break the microphone. We see it all the time with many Pearls we have in our organization.

Should be around $50-$60 to have the microphone repaired by a third-party.
I think we used Dr. Cellphone a few times with success.

Thanks Troy. At this point- 5 hours in- that does seem a bit drastic. I have had this 8300 since the day they were released with zero issues and then -BOOM- none can hear me. very odd.

Added the "voiceminder" program from Webis yesterday- I will delete that and try a battery pull.

Your suggestions are appreciated but will be my last gasp efforts- I do thank you though.

JP

I will consider the microphone replacement but I did not drop it at all- it was in my pocket all day.

Also look into what Penguin said above. All else fails it might be a good route.

Yes the mic is probably broken or it moved a little and is not making a connection. It can be repaired quite easily. You could probably do it your self even . I have had customers who just bump thier phones in thier pockets and break somthing (razr front lense) . Ill give u an example, i have an 8320, one night i threw in on my couch while it was in its pouch. By the way, i use a rex regina case which is heavy duty and high end. My 8320 bounced of the couch, fell on the carpet. My camera didnt work any more. Turns out the camera connector ribbon popped off. I fixed it and it works fine.

See wht posting on BB forums does.....success- it is fixed.

This was my fifth yes 5 battery pulls and restarts but it seems to be working now. I kept pulling the battery while waiting for replies...

That is the oddest thing. It was very inconvenient also when I was trying to call home while in traffic and my wife kept picking up and could not hear me. Good news was the BB e-mail worked fine and I e-mailed her of the problem.

Thanks all for the input- I hope this problem was resolved for good. The only thing I did today was change ringtones- maybe that did it.

Thanks again all,
John

Glad it is resolved. Let us know if it comes back and if so what caused it.

you very well could have a bad mic (mics go bad).

It's good it came back, but it could go out (which means its going out). I suggest doing the OS wipe and re-install. But a good test to do is have someone else with a phone help you out.

Speak into your phone and start tapping the bottom of the phone where the mic is. See if that causes it to go in & out. Thats what you should have done when it first went out, make a test call and keep tapping the bottom and see if it comes back on. If it does, your mic is bad.

I've noticed on my new curve (only a few days old) the mic has cut out a few times with full reception. It hasn't been dropped yet :/ . I'll have to try the battery pull, it's just so intermittent it would take forever to test.

Other then that (and the cookie problem with opera) I don't know how I survived with out this thing.
