Default OS: 8300 4.2.2.338 / 4.2.2.184 (Singtel) Inlcudes Chinese - 12-21-2007, 07:13 AM

Software For BlackBerry Curve 8300 (TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.338 (Chinese)

Package Version: 4.2.2.338
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.2.2.184
Software Platform: 2.5.0.40
File name: 8300CJK_PBr4.2.2_rel338_PL2.5.0.40_A4.2.2.184_Sing Tel.exe
File size: 93.35MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download Software
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...3314DF2B3CB9CE

This OS can be installed on ANY 8300 regardless of brand.

Installation Instructions

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. Currently, the latest version available is 4.3 and may be downloaded here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads

Note: Desktop Manager 4.3 still has some issues. Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 is recommended but 4.3 can be used if desired.

2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.

3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader

4. Plug in the BlackBerry and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

(Link to previous OS click here.)

Just downloaded last night and I haven't got a chance to play with it. BTW, please put this as sticky, so other member can be notified and download the latest. Thanks OP and Mod.

The link above takes me to the Smart-Tone DL page for the previous OS. I can't seem to find the right version. Any ideas?

Thanks

EDIT:
I did some searching on the BB FAQ's site and found the two carriers that have this OS. They are as follows:

Telkomsel
Singapore Telecom Mobile Pte Ltd

Hope that helps anyone else who has trouble with the link above.

What are the advantages to upgrading to a Chinese OS? I like my OS just fine so far... Unless it does some sepctacular tricks, of course.

Just finished the upload and right off the bat noticed a new issue I don't think happened before. When I go into settings to change something (i.e. the font), and I use the alt key to show all the options, if I press the back key (the key to the left of the "end call" key), the application switcher pops up on the screen for a brief second, then goes away. It doesn't actually switch programs, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

I haven't noticed anything else though.

FYI, All OS support English input and reading, so if you are happy with your current one, just leave it as it is. Newer OS might fix some bugs and introduce some bugs as well...

Default net.rim.platform.ecmascript error - 12-21-2007, 10:46 PM

I've also posted on the other OS thread ->> http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tml#post781601

The DM found the update fine but I got an error message when going to the apploader saying "The application "blackberry PGP Email Library" cannot be loaded because it required the following applications that are not available: net.rim.platform.ecmascript

I downloaded a different os recently from these formus that gave me the same error to which I thought that maybe it was a CDMA version instead of a GSM. I don't think that's the problem becasue the thread creator has t-mob noted in his profile.

I'm using 4.2.2.14 DM.

Any thoughts or help on how to correct this? I've copied the old java file into the loader file but nothing really seems to help. I'm running .180 on an 8320 from T-Mobile.

Thanks in advance!

First, this is the wrong thread for questions about the 8320 OS. The OS for the 8300 and the 8320 are quite different and are not interchangeable. I'll see you over in the 8320 OS thread.

I didn't know that they were separate. Thanks!

Hello,

I am from India and my Handheld shows Blackberry 8300 v 4.2.2.114.

Is this the latest version and will this version 4.2.2.338 work for me in India.

I am on Vodafone network here.

I bought the phone in US unlocked and it is working fine here.

Your suggestions are wanted.

Yes, this version will work on your device. If all is working well for you, there is no reason to upgrade, however, unless you just want to.

What I want to know is the update is not Carrier specific. There would be no problem if I use Singtel os update on Hutch/Vodafone Network.

Nope. It's not carrier specific. You can use it.

I downloaded the new OS and installed it on my computer then started DM (4.3). Couldn't get the update to begin like it usually does. So then I downgraded DM 4.3 to 4.2 SP2 and restarted, uninstalled the .184 upgrade and then reinstalled it. No luck, the update doesn't start.

I've tried installing and reinstalling DM 4.3 and $4.2, and downloading and uninstalling/reinstalling both versions of the .184 OS (making sure to delete the .xml) and can not get the new OS to install when I plug the BB in and start DM.

Ideas?

Default Update... using Mac - 12-29-2007, 04:25 AM

Hi... I have V4.2.2.181 and I wish to update my handset with the latest OS.

I am using a Macbook (OSX) and have PocketMac as well as MissingSync for syncs.

Can someone advise how/if I can download/sync the latest update of the BB OS?
