Default Edge,GSM more bars in more places

I need to know if I could have done anything to my 8310 to make it stay on Edge and not go to GSM if that makes any sense. I deleted 4 or 5 service books that appeared to be links to buy tunes etc. After that my phone shows edge and one or more bars but tells me that were unable to make call. This is usually inside a store where reception was bad to begin with but i use to see it come up GSM. I am not that knowledgeable as you can tell but it just appears something is now wrong. What can I check. Under status signal is -94dbm

With -94 you should be able to make a call just fine. You loose service at about -103.

If you have EDGE that means you have Data and GSM, If you just have GSM that means calls and text only.

If you walk outside does the phone work fine again? If so it is just a bad reception area.

Yea the phone works fine outside, this area just sucks for AT&T coverage so any fringe is even worse. Inside stores is just about impossible. it just seemed to be worse than normal. Thanks for the reply though. Although it didn't work when i first went outside so I had to do a battery pull and then it would work but still poorly.

There is no correlation with deleting those service books and have 'edge' or 'gsm'. You just have a low signal. Do as advised above.

I have T-Mobile and live in a fringe area, I ended up installing a repeater to get service but now use UMA.
