I posted this thread in the wrong section and I wanted to get the opinions of the 8320 curve owners

Allright. I followed all of the threads speaking to how to fix the sunken trackball issue that has plagued the curve. Everything went well until I went to re-install the trackball with the protective ring. I ended up destroying the silver ring.

I ordered a new ring and trackball mechanism. Before I tear this one up, is there some special way these are to be installed. Do you fit the ball mechanism in the ring first and then insert the entire unti as a whole, or do you put the ball mechanism in the phone and then try to place the ring in between the mechanism and the body of the phone. How does the ring snao in place without bending the prongs

Clark the moderator advised that the ball mechanism goes in first. Is there any special trick to inserting the ring with its metal prongs. It is that which I messed up before

Those are metals prongs? I thought they were plastic.

Anyway, I drop the trackball assembly into the phone first. Then the ring goes on separately. I don't know what you mean by placing the ring in between the mechanism and the body of the phone.

I push it as evenly as possible straight down. Ring level with the face of the phone. There are no prongs on the side of the ring toward the screen. Those are on the other 3 sides. I set the ring on top and with thumbs on both sides of the ring push down evenly. If you shine a bright light, you can see the slits on the sides and bottom that the prongs go into. Not really nice rectangular looking slits, but there are holes there. The 2 side ones on mine go all the way to the circuit board and you can see the green at the bottom.

Thanks that is exactly what I needed. I went and shined a light and actually saw the slit openings. I did not see these before and I tried to force the romg down and destroyed it. I see how it goes now and I am all set. I love this forum and its members
