Default Unlocked AT&T Curve on Tmo - UMA compatible?

Please Login to Remove!

Just making sure on this before I buy one used - if I purchase an unlocked AT&T Curve and bring it to T-mo, will it work with UMA (Tmo @ Home)? I assume I'll need to install the Tmo OS on the thing, but I dunno if UMA has a hardware component to it too.

Thanks!

AT&T has two Curves. The 8300 and the 8310. Neither have WiFi.
AT&T offers the 8820, which does have WiFi, but is not a Curve.

I see. So basically, for a Tmo customer you pretty much need to buy a Tmo phone on the used market? An AT&T won't really work fully even if unlocked (assuming you want Wifi and UMA) from what you said...

If you want a Curve with WiFi, you need an 8320.
AT&T does not sell an 8320. I'm not sure how much more I can add.

Make sure you know what you are doing before you buy a used BB. It isn't like buying any other cell phone as there are several things to look out for. I suggest that you check the FAQ. There is some great info inthis link and it applies to all used purchases, not just ebay. Buying a BlackBerry off eBay - BlackBerryFAQ

The 88 series on ATT MAY. And that's a slim chance. But MAY work with UMA IF you get the TMO os loaded on it. And I'm not sure if tmo's 8800 does UMA. If not, it won't be possiable

Any more questions?? Pin me

No BB other than the TMo 8320 will support UMA on TMo. Only the phones that TMo specifies will support UMA. You need a TMo branded 8320 in order to use the UMA service.

The T-Mobile 8800 does not have Wifi. The AT&T 8800 does not have WiFi.

Interesting - what's missing or locked out or whatever, if you take a different 8320 and try to use it with TMo UMA? (Not arguing at all, simply curious.)

i have a BB8320 unlocked that i purchased through Orange France and i can't get the UMA to come up when i use Tmobile US SIM card, and when looking at the WIFI diagnostcs, it shows that it tries to access the orange server for the UMA and not the tmobile. So unless we are able to make changes to this config (i am not sure how to), you wont be able to use non tmobile branded phone on tmobile netwrk and this is a bummer, because i had to buy another tmobile phone so that i can use the tmobile from abroad and call US numbers without incuring roaming charges.
