8300 stopped working after being dropped
 

I dropped my curve accidentally (from a desk) and the screen turned blank afterwards... I could actually make calls from the phone but I can't see anything but a blank screen with a blue-ish vertical line going from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen near the right hand side of the screen. I turned off the phone, unplugged the battery and left it overnight but nothing worked. AT&T won't give me a new one since it was dropped. Any idea what I could do to fix this?

Lousy answer: time to buy a new BlackBerry.

The costs to fix can exceed the worth of the device quickly.

You best bet would to be buy one from eBay, from a reputable dealer. ATT will want full retail

If you're still within warranty time frame you could make a claim with RIM and see what happens. Otherwise I'd look into seeing if it can be fixed. You may have just popped the video cable that connects to the screen loose on the positive side, that can be fixed by taking it apart and taking a look.

If it's the screen that broke you could probably replace it, but if it's the board that was damaged, then you're best off to just buy a new device.

You could repair the device your self. You can buy the screen at ebay.

Any idea where I could go to buy the screwdriver? The screws looked custom-made and I'm not that handy...

Those are torx screws, you should be able to get a driver that will fit it at most hardware stores. I think it's a T6, but could also have some T5 screws in there, not sure as I haven't taken it apart. Most stores sell a small kit for under $10 that should get you what you need.

Also to get a screen, or perhaps send to them to see if it is the screen that is bad you could check this business out:

I have no previous experience with them, but they do sell curve LCDs if need be and also offer repair services. Screen repair done by them for $145 is still cheaper then a new device.

so wait you dropped your phone and att wont replace it. sense you know this im guessing you have insurance correct. what the point in insurance if you cant use it if accidentally break your phone

you could also try to pass it on the warranty if there no outside damage without telling then you drop it

The people at AT&T told me that they have no problems sending me a new one. And when I receive a new one, I can send them my broken one. However, if they determine that this was caused by physical damage (which is not covered as part of the warranty) they'd charge me $349.00 for the phone they sent me. I told them that I could just send the broken phone to them and if they determined that it wasn't physical damage, they could send me a new one, if not, just send back my broken one... They wouldn't agree to it...

Damm Cingular/AT&T. I've been a long-time customer of theirs, too. My monthly phone bill is close to $300.

I would attempt to repair it myself as was suggested above.
