I never got a chance to use it with my BlackBerries, but I used that BT GPS receiver with my HTC TyTN and an 8525 and it worked VERY well. I highly recommend it. The battery life on it is also quite good.

I was very happy with the BT-359 unit which I paired with my 8700c.

I did hear that there were some issues running bluetooth connections for GPS with 4.2 OS (I was using 4.1 OS on my 8700c), so not sure if that would affect you or not (maybe other 8320 owners using bluetooth GPS can chime in).

I purchased my unit on ebay for under fifty dollars (shipping included). The seller picked up some returned units to Cingular, and the one I received was in mint condition. I expect there are others who have upgraded to an internal GPS BB that may post their units for sale as well.

What software version do you have on your 8320?? I have noticed several people mentioning that there are some intermittent bluetooth issues with this phone when using GPS receiver. How well does it work with standard BB maps and Google maps?

Thanks

Thanks

There both the same. C and W are the patterns on the unit. C=circles and W=waves. You should be able to find them for $99.

I used the BT-359W for quite a while until I got the Keychain models from Freedom and was quite happy with it. However, the Freedom Keychain models are just as accurate and much more convenient to carry and use. The newest Keychain model is awesome. I hardly know it's there and it boots very fast. I use it with the 8320 and personally don't have very many disconnects. It just depends on the device though. Also, it was posted that the 4.3.1 may just address this issue and I'm waiting to get more definitive info on this.

Okay, so I got my GPS unit today. But, I cannot figure out how to get it up and running!! It is paired to my phone and I have selected it in the BB maps to use for GPS but it just keeps telling me that it is searching for satellites!! So annoying...can anyone help??

I'm assuming you got the BT-359 since you're posting in a BT-359 thread. When you turn it on make sure the signal light is flashing. That tells you it's picking up satellites. The bluetooth light on the GPS will also flash slowly when it's turned on and quickly when the GPS is paired AND talking to an application that requests satellite info.

Once you do that make sure that under Options >Advanced Options >GPS you have the BT-359 selected.

Then go to your GPS app and start GPS.

Nevermind, I got it working. I guess it just takes several minutes to find the satellites.

Default Will BT-359 work with Google or BlackBerry Maps on Verizon? - 03-17-2008, 09:09 PM

Verizon's Pearl 8130 is clearly not supported for the TeleNav application. But what if I don't care...if I just want it to work with Google or BlackBerry Maps?

I've partly answered my own question but came up with a new one. The BT-359 works--for a WHILE--with my Verizon 8130, but it won't stayed paired with Bluetooth. It pairs and stays connected just long enough for a few updates--deadly accurate, by the way--but then it just dissociates or unpairs or disconnects. I can't find any way to keep it connected.

CORRECTION (2008-04-05): I'm late in returning to correct this post. I can now get the BT-359 to pair and stay connected very reliably. I don't know what sequence I was using before, or what else I might have been doing wrong, but now if I follow this sequence, it works very well:

I will assume the BT-359 has been successfully "added" as a Bluetooth device before and will show up in the Bluetooth device list.

1. Enable Bluetooth on phone
2. Cancel the "Add Device" message (since BT-359 got added before now)
4. Close Bluetooth app
5. Power up BT-359 (and I usually wait a few seconds to give it time to connect, but not sure this is necessary)
6. If phone LED does not flash blue, DON'T ASSUME THAT MEANS FAILURE. When I connect to my Bluetooth headset, the LED does flash blue at this point, but not my BT-359. Not sure why.
7. Run an app like BlackBerry Maps or Google Maps. If BB Maps, (set GPS source to be BT-359) do Start GPS Navigation. If GMM, do Find Location.
8. Finally, you should be the LED flashing blue on your phone.
