Default Emails in HTML? - 12-28-2007, 09:58 AM

Has anyone ever used Empower Your Blackberry to view emails in HTML? It is not a separate email client and supposedly seamlessly integrates with the default email client. There is a standard editiion and a pro upgarde edition. I have also heard of Blackberry Smart which is similar but I am not sure if it is a separate email client or integrates in the same fashion as EYBB. Sorry for the newby question.

I'm not familiar with empower.

I use BB Smart, it's seamless and works with the existing email program. Once in the message list you can change settings and so on. BB Smart has a free trial, maybe you should try them and see which one fits your bill.

BB Smart website.

And I'm not sure if it is still valid, but here is a coupon code to save 15% on BB Smart if you choose to buy it:

****EDIT****: Here's 20% off BB SMART

Wirelessly posted (8800: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8310/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

There are hundreds of posts on Empower Email in our Aftermarket Software section. It works well, seems the consensus is that the Pro version is best of the two Empower products.
BBSmart is another alternative HTML viewer. All work within the BlackBerry email message folder, noty as separate client.
Good luck.

I've tried both... they are both HTML email viewers (they don't replace the email client)... I downloaded the BBSmart trial a couple weeks ago and liked it a lot (mainly because it was the first html viewer I had tried)... the main annoyance I found with BBSmart was the time it took to load an email that had images... sure, you can turn images off, but i would rather leave images on and let them load while i was viewing the email instead of throwing up a wait dialog forcing me to wait until all images were loaded before i could read the email.

The day Empower released their new Pro version (since previous versions were not compatible with OS 4.3), I threw it on my 8130 and was instantly converted... I was disappointed when they announced the $30 price tag, but then registered immediately when they offered the discount if you buy before the end of the year and use the code they posted on this forum.

My recommendation would be to go with Empower Pro and buy it while it's on sale ;)

Default More Newbie Questions - 12-28-2007, 01:05 PM

I had some more "newbie" questions since this is my first BB device.

Regarding Empower Your Blackberry,

1) Is the "pro" edition a full install meaning that the "std" edition does not have to be installed first to upgrade to the "pro" edition?
2) If "std" edition has to be loaded first before upgrading, does the "pro" overwrite the "std" edition?
3) Where does the software install on the device or on a memory card? Main concern is file size.

They are two separate products. You can install Pro by itself.

See above.

The application (viewer) installs on the device. You can set the cache to use an SD card.

First i had empower std. on my curve. Worked great.
After i did buy a new curve i loaded BBSmart on it and worked fine, loads a bit slower but has more options.
Last week i upgraded from empower std. to pro for 5$ and the pro version is just perfect. Loads fast, a lot of options and integrates with calender and address book.
Just try them out and see for yourself.
