Default Battery Draning Very Fast - 01-01-2008, 06:46 AM

I just switched from an 8300 to an 8310. I charge the BB every night. By the end of each day, the 8300 almost always had over 50-60% battery remaining. The 8310, however, is down under 10%. My usage habits have not changed. Anyone have any possible explanations?

Happy New Year!

Check what apps are running by holding down [Alt] and hitting [Esc] (button to the RIGHT of the trackball). A ribbon will display with icons of each app that's running. Keep holding down [Alt] and scroll through them to display each app's name. At the very least you should have Home Screen, Browser, Phone, and Messages. If you have BlackBerry Messenger installed, it will also be running.

Also, check what version OS you're running by going to (Settings/Tools -->) Options --> About. The third line down should say v4.2.2.170 (latest available from AT&T). If it doesn't, update your OS.

did you enable auto-dim backlight?
backlight timeout?
brightness?
led coverage indicator?
do you ever holster your BB at all?
these are pretty simple questions re: battery savings

Have you tried pulling the battery? That happened to me once for a few days, I pulled the battery, made sure I didn't have anything strange open, and it worked great! One thing I did notice is that with Google Calendar Sync it really drained my battery. So I turned it on manual, and I sync it once, when needed, and everything works great now

also if you leave your media player open by just hitting the red key to exit. If you have 'Now Playing' listed under your menu options then its open. Just go back into it, hit menu close until it closes completely out of the application. Even if nothing is actively playing it still drains the battery very quickly.

This happened to me as well after I inadvertently let the battery go red. It used to last forever unplugged now it wont last the night if I leave it on the counter. I have all the battery saving options mentioned in this thread. I am going to check apps but I haven't used many. My usage is not enough to cause this big a drain!? I just switched from the Pearl to the Curve which I adore.

I think it was because Beyond 411 was running, which uses the GPS. Thanks to everyone.

All I had to do was remove battery for 2 minutes and all is well. I am back in love again! LOL

I have found that any app that uses GPS must be properly closed or your battery will be dead in less than a day. GPS apps are serious power hogs. This is too bad because I really only use GPS when travelling or hiking. Both activities are less likely that I can plug in. I don't know if RIM has a way to make the GPS less draining - like refreshing only once per minute versus constantly.
