2GB MicroSD Card
I had a Pearl and got a SanDisk 2GB MicroSD card and everything worked fine. I just got the Curve in yesterday and I put in the card and it does not work. I went into Options > Media Card and when I tried to format I get the message "Media Card Format Failed" The card is recognized because when I turn on my phone it asks me if I want to turn on Mass Storage.

Anyone got an idea on what I can do? Also I opened up my computer and tried to format the drive and it would not do it.

did you have the card encrypted on the pearl?

SLEZ 01-19-2008 05:15 PM

I did not select anything to encrypt it but maybe it was. Is there a way I can check?

Sith_Apprentice 01-19-2008 05:24 PM

you can hook your phone up to the computer, with mass storage mode on, and see if you can view the files or if they are an unknown file type

SLEZ 01-19-2008 05:26 PM

The thing is when I enable Mass Storage when I try to access the drive in my computer it freezes up and when I try to load up Media Manager it also freezes and as soon as I disable mass media everything works just fine.

do you still have your pearl to try it in? also define freezes up. with the computer or the device or both? and can you do nothing on the PC when you try, or can you still move the mouse, etc

SLEZ 01-19-2008 05:30 PM

I don't have the pearl anymore, I can move the mouse but just the program won't respond for example the Media Manager won't respond.

Sith_Apprentice 01-19-2008 05:31 PM

it may take some time or media manager to connect to the device, at times it may appear frozen. how long did you wait before closing it

SLEZ 01-19-2008 05:35 PM

I gave it more then enough time, I just loaded it up and it's fine and then says enable mass storage once I do that it will stop responding. Also in my computer if I try to access the drive it will stop responding also. Could my microsd card be damaged?

Sith_Apprentice 01-19-2008 05:36 PM

its unlikely. solid state memory is difficult to damage. are there any nicks or chips out of the contacts?

SLEZ 01-19-2008 05:36 PM

Also on the phone in Options > Media Card when I enable mass storage it says, "Media card cannot be read. Verify that the memory card is formatted." But it does not let me format.

Sith_Apprentice 01-19-2008 05:38 PM

sounds like it is encrypted to me. anyone else have an input on this?

SLEZ 01-19-2008 05:39 PM

The card is fine with no visible damages.

SLEZ 01-19-2008 05:40 PM

If it is encrypted what are my options?

Sith_Apprentice 01-19-2008 05:41 PM

i do not use the encryption on them, so i am unsure if you have to hook it directly to a computer to format the media card.

I just read on a site that the curve has a problem reading SanDisk cards. Is there a way to update the card reader on the curve?

My 8310 reads the 4GB SanDisk card I put in it just fine, I doubt that's it. Sith may well be on the right track regarding encryption. The card interface is part of the basic BB operating system. You can update to the latest according to the instructions here (stickied at the top of the 8300 forum.) You might also try putting the card directly into a card reader for the PC and seeing if you can read and format it directly on the PC.

I am using a Sandisk 2GB card in my Curve and it has worked flawlessly.

I also had a Pearl 8100 and upgraded to the 8310. I did not encrypt the card or anything of the sort. In fact, I actually saved some Media files to the card and moved them to my Curve, again without any issues.

Have you tried doing a hard reset? Are you running the most current OS on the Curve?

You can hard reset by doing a battery pull while the phone is on. To check your OS, go to options > about. It will look like 4.2xxxx.

I doubt that the hard reset would do anything but it's always worth a shot. If your OS is not updated, I would definitely do that as well. You can search on the Forums here to find step by step instructions for doing so. I had some minor issues with my Curve when I first got it but once I installed the most recent OS, I have had no problems.

Good luck!
