Default Phone shuts down/reboots - 01-23-2008, 07:20 PM

In the middle of a phone call I find that my curve will go doead and then the screen just shows the hour glass... Then it goes to the att screen and it looks like it verifies some sort of certificate. Why does it do this?

For some reason it's spontaneously rebooting. You might update the OS on the device if you haven't already.

The latest OS is here:

I should have mentioned that the upgrade I am running is 4.2.2.181 (2.5.0.35)
Device is unlocked and have loaded all themes on phone. Not sure if this would cause it.

If you have all themes, you could be running low on memory. Not sure that's causing the reboots but it'll end up being other problems later.

Thanks... I am going to hunker down for an hour or so and go through the links in your signature. Nothing better to do when stuck in hotel while on business.

Default T-Mo 8320 Issues with calls - 01-25-2008, 10:30 AM

I have two new issues with the 8320 on T-mobile. My phone does the same thing - In the middle of a call the phone turns off. Then it takes several minutes to reboot and start up again. Also, during phone calls it disconnects the call and prevents me from reconnecting to that same caller. It does locks up on calls. Does not respond to any button to make a call. I then have to pull the battery in order for it to work again - 5min later.

Any thoughts?

I have the EXACT same problem! And this is a replacement phone bc the last one which I only had for 2 months had stopped working due to the trackball not working and would start sending 15 blank e-mails at a time, muting and unmuting during calls, and a ton of other weird things.

I get a replacement phone yesterday from T-mo and I immediately start having probs with not being able to answer or make calls due to the phone shutting down after about 5 seconds into the calls. WTF!

Had the same rebooting issues and they were all solved by a new battery.

I had the rebooting issue when I was on UMA. I then turned off my UMA and had never rebooted again.

Default BB 8320 Reboting - 03-30-2008, 06:58 PM

We are also having issues with our BB8320/T-Mobile phones. The first curve died after about a month. T-Mobile promptly replaced it. We got a second 8320 and added T-Mobile routers to our businesses and home. We had a continual problem with dropped calls with both of these phones. We spent hours on the phone with both T-Mobile and RIM. Neither T-Mobile or RIM had any answers. After about a month or so, the phones started to spontaneously reboot. It didn't matter if we were on wifi or on the edge network. Sometimes it would be in the middle of a call, sometimes when text messaging...sometimes when the phone was sitting on the table doing nothing. Again a call to T-mobile. They promptly sent out two new phones to replace these. We thought we were good to go after activating the shiny new Titanium Curves....but I just looked down at my phone sitting on the counter and sure enough....ITS REBOOTING!!! These things are absolute pieces of crap! We have had many blackberry phones in the past with really no issues, but the curves are as unreliable as they get. This is not an isolated incident as these are phones 4 and 5 for us (Three replacements!). I can't believe that RIM is not stepping up to the plate and fixing these issues. It is either bad hardware or bogus software that is causing this. There is no excuse for a company like RIM to stonewall and tell us that they are not aware of any issues with this device. I have completely lost confidence in a Blackberry as a reliable business class phone.

I haven't had rebooting issues with mine....

What OS version? There are two newer OS versions than what TMobile offers. Also, you weren't using the same batteries in all 4 phones were you? Were the replacements brand new with brand new batteries?

Smile BB 8320 Rebooting - 03-30-2008, 07:43 PM

The O/S is 4.2.2.180. The first replacement had a complete new phone....battery and all. The second replacements (2 of them) were just a bare phone. T-Mobile has not even suggested that the battery may be an issue. Very interesting huh? I just got off the phone with T-Mobile BB support and they want to have me re-initialize the phone. I told them I can't do it tonight and loose my BES connectivity. I have a busy day at work tomorrow and can't afford to be without my E-Mail. The last phone I got wiped out my contacts on the Exchange server when I did an Enterprise activation. I have to get them from a backup tape. I may call them back tomorrow afternoon when things slow down.

I would load the newer OS posted on this forum.

I have used this OS on my TMo 8320 for quite some time.

Default BB 8320 Rebooting - 03-30-2008, 07:50 PM

The only thing I worry about is T-Mobile support. If I go to a higher FW version, than 4.2.2.180 then they may balk at supporting the device. What do you think?

They won't support it with .184 but you have nothing to lose. If it fixes it, who cares. If not, you can always downgrade it back to .180. Also, did you get a chance to try it for a while before restoring your data and activating on BES? Also, have you tried a different theme?

No, I activated it right away on the BES server. The crazy thing is that we have 8100's, 8800's and these on our BES server and not a single problem with any Blackberry except for the 8320's.

I think you are right about the firmware. If T-Mobile is not any help (which I think will be the case), I am going to try an update on one of them. The one thing I am just amazed at, is that I have had two support tickets open with RIM (After T-Mobile escalated the case) and they have been no help either.

OH, almost forgot....I have no themes or 3rd party apps on the phone. The only thing on the phones are what came from T-Mobile.

Also, using the 8320 on incompatible routers (using wifi) can cause reboots.
