Default Phone mysteriously deletes email with large attachment

Please Login to Remove!

I have my TO DO list on a big Word document (I find this much more efficient than using the tasks function on Outlook). The document is about 110 KB.

I want to have a copy of my TO DO list on my phone.

Easy, I thought. Every so often I will just email it to myself as an attachment.

So I do that, and it works fine. It arrives on my phone as an attachment, I can open it and read it.

But then, maybe 2 hours later, maybe 24 hours later, it mysteriously disappears from my phone!!

This doesn't happen with any of my other emails, they stay there indefinitely until I delete them.

The only difference between this email and the other emails is that it is bigger than other emails I get (but at 110 KB, it's hardly huge).

Any thoughts?

Could be a memory issue. Have you looked at these FAQ links:

That ^^ could be the problem, but I am wondering IF no other email or messages or SMS or call logs are being deleted... is that actually it.

Are you sure it is being deleted? Are you saving the file, have you looked in the SAVED folder (Messages > View Saved)?

I just checked the saved messages, and there is nothing there. I never save any messages, I always delete my email messages off the phone once I have downloaded them to my laptop.

I always leave SMS and MMS messages on the phone.

I presume that means I have 64MB on my phone, of which 55MB I have used and 9MB I still have free?

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Just looking for clues: is the blackberry on BIS or BES? Is this email sent to an address on the BES, to a @carrier.blackberry.net address, gmail, yahoo, other ISP? Could the email somehow get deleted or moved from the inbox on another location and then get deleted on the blackberry because of that?

Just looking for clues: is the blackberry on BIS or BES? Is this email sent to an address on the BES, to a @carrier.blackberry.net address, gmail, yahoo, other ISP? Could the email somehow get deleted or moved from the inbox on another location and then get deleted on the blackberry because of that?
The BB is on BIS. The email which mysteriously self-deletes is sent to my own email address on my own domain name that I own. So it's not a web-based email account like a gmail, hotmail or yahoo.

Actually I have two email addresses (at two different domain names that I own) and the problem occurs irrespective of which email address I use. Both email address are setup on the BIS.

I did think of what you said about it being deleted elsewhere and then maybe being deleted on the BB because of it, but that's a BES thing not a BIS thing right?

I'm pretty sure I've deleted emails from my Outlook inbox and they stay on the BB until I delete them there, but I'll do a test now just to make sure.

I was thinking yahoo or gmail. Give us an update on test result.

On BIS, deleting from Outlook will have NO effect whatsoever on your BB.

You said, though, that you don't have access to a webmail with those two POP accounts--HOWEVER, are you sure? When you delete from Outlook, does that delete from the webmail? Some POP accounts do reconcile deletes (like gmail does) from the server --to-->> the BB.

I just sent the test email, it was a short one liner with no attachement.

It has already arrived on my BB handset.

I just deleted it from my inbox on Outlook.

So far, the message is still in my message list on my BB.

If the problem is going to reoccur, it will happen within the next 48 hours (often much sooner). I'll post an update if the message self-deletes, or if it doesn't self-delete in 48 hours from now.

Thanks very much for your help and advice, I really appreciate it.

Server to BB deletes on BIS are not instant (like on BES), sometimes hours before the deletion occurs.

good luck, please do report back.

I do have access to a webmail server for those two POP accounts, for when I am away from my Outlook email client. What I meant was that it wasn't one of those services like Hotmail, Yahoo, etc where the normal mode of access is through a web interface.

My normal mode of accessing my emails is to download them through Outlook to my laptop, but yes I can access them through webmail. Anyway, that's all irrelevant since, as you say, on BIS deleting from Outlook will have NO effect whatsoever on your BB. I am sure I will prove that in a couple of days with the little test I am running.

Anyway, the initial problem I posted still exists and no closer to a solution

cool, but do test it... even test with your problem file. Let's rule out all the possibilities.

Actually yes I did it with the problem file, but this time I had the brainwave of not sending it as an attachement, but just pasting the entire text of the file in the body of the email itself - which is actually more efficient since there's less button pushes to go through to read the document.

I will report back with the results if and when the emails disappear, or if they don't after 48 hours.

Thanks again for the help.

if it is real important, you might look into using BeamBerry.

BeamBerry - View, Print, Store BlackBerry e-mail attachments

For grins, will you also send it as an attachment same way you did in the past. Who knows. Let's see if it is a factor.

Not that important to see it in original format or be able to print it. Just as long as I have it on my phone and can read it when I am mobile. I don't even need to edit it.

Just curious: Why email? You are using Outlook, so creating a Do List in notes and syncing with the blackberry is an option, and I'm sure you thought of it. So why email instead of notes?

I tried it, but there is a limit on the number of characters when it syncs. I have approximately 28,000 characters in my TO DO list, and you can put that many characters in a note. But when it syncs, it only picks up the first approximately 5,000 characters. I suppose I could split it up in to 5 notes, but that's starting to get messy and inefficient to use when on my laptop.
