|  Google video on Curve requires conversion?

There is a download option for videos on video.google.com for "Download for Video IPod/Sony PSP". The videos are: 320x240 24bpp 30fps H.264 / AVC with stereo MPEG-4 AAC 44Khz audio.
It's nice that the dimensions are the same as the resolution for the Curve, but these videos don't play on a Curve (black screen with only audio).
What part of the codecs making up the video don't work on a Curve?
I was hoping not having to convert these videos using mencoder.
