Try rebooting it (take the battery out for a second).

What were you doing when it did this? My Blackberry has NEVER asked me to type Blackberry unless I was doing a security wipe.

Really, Greggebhardt... I have never seen that except to proceed a full wipe.

herc is gone now, maybe he will be back, maybe he found someone else's BlackBerry?

It asks you to type blackberry to confirm that there isn't some sort of malfunction like a faulty keyboard. It sounds like this happens to be the OP's case since pulling the battery didn't help.

It seems more than one assumed the "worst"! This guy is really having a keyboard problem and you "people" are thinking he was a thief!

Herc, glad you got it worked out!

JSanders, wipe when you are done spinning!

When entering your password incorrectly the device eventually prompts you to enter 'blackberry'. I assume that this is done for the exact reason the the OP experienced (faulty keyboard or keys pressed while in pocket).

Just as an example... I get 10 attempts to unlock my BlackBerry before its wiped. Before attempt #6, #9, and #10 I have to type 'blackberry'. Starting with attempt #6 I also see the actual characters I am typing (instead of ****). In addition, before attempt #10 I have to acknowledge that this is the last attempt before the device is wiped.
