Default 8310 curve - Camera trouble

Please Login to Remove!

Hi again! Thanks for the previous assistance, but I still got one issue which I can't seem to resolve:

When entering the 'Camera' mode, the phone will instantly (after approx 0,3secs) freeze and the phone will either restart itself or I have to take the battery out.

This is quite frustrating, and I just wanted to ask the experts what you think might be the problem, and if you have heard of any similar camera trouble?

For info:
¤ I got the latest OS
¤ The problem occurs with and without my memory card (which is a Micro-SD)

Thanks.

If reloading the OS doesnt fix your problem I would exchange it under the 1yr warranty.

Hmmm.. ok, thanks for the answer. The thing is I bought my 8310 curve on fifth avenue in New York, and I'm currently living in Bournemouth, UK. So, it's a bit problematic exchanging it.

It isn't possible to replace/modify the camera module file? Another thought: Could it be a restriction issue (couldn't see why, but just wanted to mention it)?

Why don't you try wiping your device and starting fresh? I had a similar problem with the Vodafone SatNav software when I first got my 8310. It would freeze just like you described. I tried allsorts and the only thing that worked was resetting the device back to the factory settings.

I've not had a problem with it since.

Thanks, good idea! I'll give it a try. However, how would this affect my saved contacts, messages, media-files etc.? Would they all be erased? (A bit of a noob question I guess.. ) And secondly, how do I go about resetting it to factory settings?

You can back up your device with the Blackberry Desktop Manager. This will ensure you don't lose your data. If you don't already do it, synchronise your device with your pc so that your contacts, calendar, etc. are always safe. Your media files will be safe as they're stored on the media card which is unaffected by the reset.

To perform a factory reset, do the following.

First go to Options>Security Options>General Settings

Press the menu key and select 'Wipe Handheld' to perform the reset.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, the problem still persists.. This is really frustrating. Any other ideas?

Do a backup and d/l the program JLCDMer.

Here is a tuturial on using it
How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ.com

and if you get a problem with it not connecting
What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ.com

then once you have wiped it open up DM and go to application manager then it will install os.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I first tried using Jl_cmder with the 'How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ.com'-instructions, but it didn't work as I couldn't connect to the BlackBerry, therefore I used the instructions from the 'What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ.com' tutorial, which worked.

Unfortunately, after resetting the settings, the issue was still there. When entering the camera-mode, the phone will freeze up instantly and will either restart itself or I have to restart it by removing the battery.. any other suggestions, or is it time to start thinking about ¤sigh¤ giving up?

It seems like it is now a hardware issue. Best thing to do is see if anybody will trade that doesn't care for the camera or just live with it or just buy another one.
