Which I'm not. I'm just a humble Blackberry user who would like the ability to record and save a minute or two of audio without paying $30 for VR+. (Which, after a day of searching, seems to be the only voice recorder software that works on a Blackberry.)
Do you have a memory card installed in your phone? Maybe that's the problem. I've never had any issues with recording using BigHand but I'm also running with a 4Gig microSD card in my BB.

Question VR+ and Firewall

I just purchased, downloaded and installed VR+ to Verizon Pearl 8130. Program works - I enabled all permissions and then had to disable the Firewall. Any advice? Is this the way it's supposed to be. New to Blackberry... Thanks

I am using Voice Notes in OS 4.5, and the sound is pretty good. Oddly enough, I can listen to the files on my pc with either Quicktime or Real player, but I can't listen to the files on the Blackberry when I open an email with the attachment.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks,
R

Hello Seanmac,
Disabling the firewall is required for the proper work of VR+ with Verizon users. Unfortunately this issue is out of our scope. This is not a preference of the application, but the settings preinstalled on the BlackBerry by Verizon. Our tech team is trying to find a workaround for this issue.

I have the same question originally posed by SBKIM. I am hoping that the BB community can help. I am looking for a simple voice recorder to record ideas and thoughts as I am a writer. Ideally, I would like to move the files to my computer for conversion to text, but for now, I just need a free recorder. I do not want to buy a voice recorder as my old blackberries and my old IPAQ had this feature. I cannot use OTA because I do not have internet service plan on the BB. I do not want a web service either for similar reasons. I just want a simple voice recorder, but don't feel that I should have to pay for what should be included. I shouldn't have to have a data plan or any plan at all. Not everyone wants to be connected all the time.

I have tried mVoice and it works very well, only I cannot find the data files and the trial version has expired. I have not tried VR+ or Big Hand, as these either cost or require OTA. With this in mind, does anyone know a free VR that doesn't require OTA installation?

If I am going to pay money for a product, then I would like the follwing features: No OTA install, Not a web service, standard file format recognizable by computers and text conversion software, prefer a software piece for my regular computer that converts the audio file to text. I am willing to pay if it can do most of these things. Any ideas?

Why is it that none of the recording apps (free or paid) can record a phone call? I used to have that with my last Windows smartphone several blackberries ago. The hardware of my 8800 is far more powerful than my last (ca. 2005) Windows phone. Why can't I record a call?

Probably turns out to be a security issue.
