Default Interference with car audio - 02-17-2008, 06:46 PM

8310 with AT&T. Experienced strong interference with car audio. The sound is quite loud and last about 1-5 seconds. It happens with there is data transmission -- the icon on the upper left corner.

Left it on the back seat, still the same.

Did not have problem with 8100.

Do I have a defective unit? Or anything I can do?

Thanks!

move the device away from the speakers or change its direction. happens with all devices to a greater or lesser extent.

This would happen with all cell phones. When it's sending/receiving anything, be it data/SMS/call/etc, it's sending out electromagnetic pulses. Audio equipment picks these pulses up. You must have your stereo turned up pretty loud for it to be noticeable in the backseat.

With my 8100, Nokia or Moto, it only happens when the phone is very close the the speaker.

With 8310, it happens when it's 3 feet away from the speaker and in sleeper pouch.

This does not feel right for me.

well you can always switch back to one of the other devices. i can be about 10ft away with any of my Curve or 8800 models and the speakers go nuts.

Not entirely true. I've had numerous BBs, including the 8830 and have never had a problem with this until the Curve. Its also a problem with many of my colleagues' Pearls. I don't notice it in the car, butit affects my computer speakers and any speakerphone.

I had the same problem while using my ipod and having my curve in the car. To fix it I hard reset my phone while in the car and with the ipod playing. I haven't had any inteference since

Do you mean pull out the battery of the Curve (hard reset)? It does not help in my case.

Just want to emphasize, the buzz sound is as loud as music in my case.

The 8310 and my 8700 did it when data was transferring and it was near the phone or clock radio. I would just move it and problem solved.

Alexmetal was really overgeneralizing. On GSM, this sort of interference is far worse on carriers that use 850MHz. There's very little interference caused by 1900MHz. You can verify this by swapping SIM's (assuming you have an 850 GSM carrier and a 1900 GSM carrier in your market) on an unlocked quad band device.

1900 still produces the same interference but I've found that a device has to be literally on top of an unshielded speaker or wire to cause any interference while on 850 you can cause far worse interference at distances of 6 feet or more.

That's just the way it is. You can deal with it, switch to the old device or get a copper box to store the new device in your car.

Its actually the transmission type. It will be more likely with TDMA / GSM style of pulsed transmission. It transmits once every 1/8 second so you get a buzz of around 217Hz.

With CDMA and (ex!)analogue it's lower level constant transmission so you don't get the demodulation causing issues in the audio path.

Its actually an issue with the equipment it buzzes on - not your phone.

I have a 8310 AT&T and everyone at work has the verizon 8800. When ever I walk by peoples desks that have speakers it makes that noise. All the verizon phones nothing. Has nothing to do with the phone itself. Its the transmition from it. If you could take a curve and put it on CDMA instead of EDGE you would not get that interference

Again, frequency makes a difference.

I believe interference from a transmitting phone will affect insufficiently shielded signal cables or amplifiers, if placed close enough. Higher quality computer speakers, wires and amplifiers do not have this problem.

And it's true that TDMA-based transmissions (GSM, iDEN; T-Mobile, AT&T) certainly do have more of an impact than CDMA (Sprint, Verizon). This doesn't really have anything to do with specific frequencies so much as air medium.

Think about this next time you claim that cell phones can't cause interference in airplanes, hospitals etc. It's been an issue that iDEN transceivers have caused enough interference to incapacitate trunked communications systems used by police/fire/emergency.

Default Interference with computers in office - 05-20-2008, 10:34 AM

HOw do I change it from EDGE to CDMA - My phone is the only phone in my office causing an interference. I previously had a Samsung and didn't have the interference. THe Pearl caused the interference and I swithced to a Curve and am still having the interference. Co-workers are not happy about the interference it's causing to their computers...
