Question Email reconcilation

Please Login to Remove!

I have the BB 8310 and I have it setup to use BIS only with my POP3 email account. Is it at all possible to get messages to reconcile when I delete messages on the handheld or in Outlook on my laptop? My desktop manager doesn't give me the option to reconcile messages with Outlook. I haven't been able to find a way to have the handheld and Outlook sync messages. I can sync all other app's.

Reconcile is only available for BES. Some folks have said that their email services like Yahoo and GMail have been reconciled through BIS but not everyone seems to be able to get it to work consistently.

It may just be anecdotal but I've been using BIS with my Yahoo mail and it will reconcile both ways just fine --near instantaneously too!!

Let me try to explain how it works.
Outlook pulls from POP3, pull intervall (15min? these are options in outlook)
Your BB gets the mails pushed from the server when they arrive.

So if you delete the email on the phone before outlook asks for new mails, outlook will not find it.

if you delete in outlook your phone should already have gotten the email. outlook don't delete on server (you have a option to leave messages at server) If you have this option set to off, Outlook will download and delete all messages it can get hold of from the POP3 email.

Hope this clarrifies it for you.

This is a fairly recent (last 6 months) development and can also be found with GMail. But it's a darn good development! Hopefully other email providers will take note and add this functionality as well. Are you listening, .Mac?

There's no way to reconcile with a POP server. It's just not supported via the POP protocol. Look any any POP email client. They all download email via POP and the only option is to leave email on the server or not. The POP server doesn't handle folders (foldering is all on your client) and it doesn't even handle outbound email -- that's what SMTP is for -- so full reconciliation is impossible.

If you want reconciliation then you need to use BES or BIS with Yahoo or gmail.

Great information here, thanks to everyone who's taking the time to reply. I just found this forum and hopefully it will help get the most of my bberry.

Is there a way to get the messages that are sent from the Blackberry to appear in OE sent messages folder? Even if it's a manual copy/hard wired sync?

I understand about reconciling to the server, that makes sense, but what about a hard connection via the USB cable?

BB's do not sync email and, again, you only options for reconciliation are the ones listed above.

You can autobcc yourself and set up a rule (though I'm not sure if OE has rules -- I never use it) to move such messages to Sent items.

That's a great idea! Thank you.

Can you tell me where to go into the bb and have it automatically bcc me?

Thanks again!
