With my Tmobile curve, can anyone suggest a GPS program that will map out and give directions in Asia? Looking for Hong Kong and Shanghai (mainland).

I am not sure if it works but you can give Google Maps a try.

I'd recommend Windows Live Search (wls). I have used this down in Mexico
and wls has street level detail where Google maps did not.
OTA from wls.live.com

There are two factors you'll need to consider:
Will you have network coverage (in order for the app to download data)?
Will the program have detailed maps of the areas of interest?

From what I can tell, the major mapping providers TeleNav and NAVTEQ do not have detailed data ready for China. In 2004, NAVTEQ and NavInfo partnered in a joint venture called NAV2 to begin providing such data.

As for Hong Kong, take a look at Nav4All, which has good support for that region. Nav4All also noted support for China "soon", so maybe they will get access to the NAV2 data.

If you have the T-Mobile Curve a.k.a. 8320--then you might need to purchase a GPS puck as that thing does not have built-in GPS.

Sorry misread the date. I know that SHanghai has WAP coverage so you can recieve emails and stuff in shanghai. Does this also include GPS?

It should be but take note of the data roaming charges. You might want to give T-Mobile a call to verify/confirm the appropriate charges for data usage while overseas.

If you really need GPS for those areas, I highly recommend getting a real GPS device and not rely on the BB. For map applications to work on the BB, you MUST have a BB data plan and connection as it downloads maps as you move. You don't need that with a true GPS device.

according to BlackBerryInsight » BlackBerry in China - some correct facts

you can sign up with china movile and get grps for 50rmb a month, something like that. Does that mean gps is included with that?

I have a tomtom 1 but currently tomtom doesn't have maps for Shanghai :(

gps and gprs are two different kind of things!

gps = "global positioning system" for use with a mapping or navigation application application.
gprs = "General Packet Radio Service" which is basically a mobile data service.

you can get gps satellite coverage all over the world for free
