Default 4GB SDHC problem - 02-26-2008, 08:52 PM

I bought 4GB SDHC card.
A-DATA 4GB MicroSDHC Class 6 Flash Card Model Turbo microSD HC 4G - Retail
Newegg.com - A-DATA 4GB MicroSDHC Class 6 Flash Card Model Turbo microSD HC 4G - Retail

My BB is 8320 (T-Mobile) with version 4.2.2.180

I can't format sd card with BB (it says "... format failed").
My sd reader on laptop doesn't recognize sd card.

Do I have to get reader to format sd card first?
Is there any way to format with my BB?

Thank you

Sean

You should be able to use the card out of the box without formatting. Are you experiencing problems writing to the card?

More than likely your SD reader is not SDHC-compatible, and will not work with your card (SDHC is backwards-compatible with SD, but older SD readers cannot be used for SDHC).

Have you tried enabling Mass Storage Mode on your BB, where you can see the card as a removable drive in Windows Explorer? If you see the card there, you should be able to format there. Just make sure you format using FAT32.

Formatting isn't generally necessary but if you can't format the card with the BB then there's a problem with the card itself.

My SanDisk 4GB Micro SDHC Memory Card just arrived. I put it in my phone and I'm already sending videos to it. One thing I noticed though is that when I first put it in, the card only reads 3.7GB instead of 4GB. Is that normal?

As others have said, you most likely have a bad card. I have the same 4GB card and I did not have to format it to use it. Thankfully, Newegg is very good about returns.

Yes, that's normal.
