Resetting while on a call -
02-27-2008, 06:33 PM
I searched and couldnt find anything to specifically answer my question. The last couple weeks my device would reset while on a call. It usually happend once a week or so, not to bad and I could live with that. But today, while on a business call, it reset 3 times within the span of 5 minutes. Any idea on why this is occurring or what I could do about it?
I have an 8310 on T-Mobile that is out of the 30 day warranty ATT offers. I have 25.1 mb's of space available so I know it is not a memory issue. I think I read a couple months ago about having to reinstall the OS, but I cant remember and couldnt find the thread again. Any ideas? Thanks.

Many times this is traced to the battery and the battery connections to the device. Some have said when they squeeze the device just right it reboots. you may likely have a defective device or battery.

Well, then youre going to think im an idiot when I tell you this. I couldnt get my sim card or sd card for that matter into their slots and get the lock locked. So I just put the battery in on top of the locks. I didnt want to force them and break them off and really be up the creek. That's the problem probably, huh?

Uh, yeah! Good chance. The sim card latch is difficult to lock. It does take a little force toward the inside of the phone. Open it up and lock the sim card and I bet your troubles will be gone.
SD card: open latch. Insert card into the metal latch (don't lay it on the circuit board like the sim) and then close latch and card together and push to the right, just like the sim card.

Now that I knew it just took a little more force than I was giving and a slide of the sd card into the actual locking mechanism, I got them both in fine. Hopefully this works, I love this device, but I was getting very frustrated wondering if my phone was going to soon reset. Thanks again!

Question for the BB geniuses in here. I did the Alt LGLG thing for giggles and it says on the very top, "Event Log (Warning)". What does that mean? Is there a problem?
So I started going through the event log list and there was some bolded items on the list and they said they were in error. It was the "net.rim.tunnel" item also the "E net.rim.tunnel". Uhhhh, what is this?

So I kept reading some more to try and figure this out. Could I just delete the event log and be ok, or is there a problem I need to debug first?

I'd call T-Mobile about that. Call from a phone other than your BlackBerry, and when the automated voice asks you how she can help you, just say, "I would like to speak to a BlackBerry tech." That will skip you over the level 1 techs, and every T-Mobile BlackBerry tech I have ever spoken with has been EXTREMELY knowledgeable, friendly, and best of all, helpful.

My previous 8320 AND my brand new 8320 reset randomly during a call...
I have checked to make sure the SIM and battery are properly inserted/ locked in. It is annoying to say the least.
Which I could figure out what causes it...
Where is the Search button??

Have you tried upgrading the operating system? There are a number of possible fixes, but aside from exchanging the phone, that seems to be one of the more common solutions.

So it did it tonight when I was on a call. I guess im going to try and reload the OS. Should I reload the same one I have, or is that the problem and should I try a different one? This sucks, never had a problem with BB now.

4.2.2.184 is the newest OS for the 8320. For whatever reason, T-mobile's Curves come with .180, and on their website that is what they offer as well. You can get .184 for the 8310 here and for the 8320 here, though.
Upgrading the OS didn't work for me when I had the problem, but some people have said it did the trick for them.

This is going to sound dumb, but I dont want to screw this up. I know I have to dl the OS to my computer, which ive done to do John's maximize memory steps. Now, how do I erase the OS now? And will I lose anything in the process if I back up my device before the wipe?

I don't remember having to wipe my device to do the upgrade, however, if you do do the wipe through options>security options>general settings and you do a backup first, you won't lose anything other than your third party applications.
Once you've installed the new OS on your computer, the desktop manager should automatically ask you if you want to upgrade the OS as soon as you plug in your blackberry. If you say yes, a backup of the device will be done automatically during the process as well as a restore.
I think a wipe is only needed if something goes wrong during the upgrade. You don't have to remove the old OS before installing the new one.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020: BlackBerry8320/4.3.1.27 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
You won't lose 3rd party applications with a security wipe but you will lose the data in them. The apps will stay there.

I lost mine, but thinking back, doesn't it ask you something about third party applications? I think I checked that box, so that would explain why.

But what if I want to install the same OS as the one already on the device? Or is the OS the problem and I need a newer or different version? Because I was under the impression I would delete the current OS and just reload it, thinking that the first time it was loaded a problem occurred. Sorry for my little understanding of this process.
