So I went to options and about and found the OS on my att 8300 is v4.4.166 and platform 2.4.0.73. Now thought I downloaded and installed the latest OS but the more I get to reading forums...I think I just reinstalled the old one. Can anyone tell me if I have the latest OS?If not...Which one is the latest and where can I get it? Thanks!

There is a sticky thread at the top of the General 8300 Discussion Forum.

The latest version is 4.2.2.184; there is no v4.4.166 (it is more likely to be 4.2.2.166).

Even it is says (Chinese) It will be in English, don't let that run you off.

The sticky note you quoted refers to "BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.338 (Chinese)" as being the latest version. So which one is it?

The version being referred to is the 'Applications Version'. You're looking at the Package version.

4.2.2.338 is the package version.
4.2.2.184 is the Applications version.

They are the same OS referred to two different ways.
When "properly" referring to an OS version, it is commonplace to state the Applications version.
