I installed this update about a week ago. I waited to post because I wanted to see if I would have any problems with the update. Everything went great and the install went well. I may be wrong but it appears to me that everything runs a little cleaner for me. My Blackberry used to hang sometimes thinking away with that annoying little hourglass and that seems not to happen anymore. Thanks for the heads up on the updates os.

Does anyone know if the 8310 can handle Chinese? Can it read and allow me to write chinese characters? If so, can you direct me where to go?
Sorry these forums are a little confusing, i'm just trying to navigate my way around and make sure that the 8310 can handle Chinese before i go and buy one.
Thank you for your help

Yes, it can handle Chinese. You need to find an OS that has Chinese Language support included. Search trough the Asian carriers in this list and see if you can find one.

Make sure you delete the vendor.xml file before you hook the USB to the BB.

Welcome to the BBF!
I am not sure what 'Bluetooth Spyware" of which you speak, but I don't know of any spyware that works on a BB. So, it is unlikely.

04-08-2008, 04:00 PM
I downloaded the new OS earlier today. I gotta' say, from previous update experiance (on a pearl), this was the fastes OS download ever! My Curve seems to be running very smooth and a bit faster!

various bug in this firmware -
04-24-2008, 05:36 PM
I've installed this firmware about 1 month ago.
1.The blackberry hang up randomly and need to remove the battery to restart.
2.About 1 day on 5 gprs is down. You need to remove battery and restart.
3.when you dial a fixed number beside a pabx in some case you doesn't ear the tone line (other firmware phone, with the same number work!)
for italy, i don't suggest to upgrade

That can sometimes be the theme being used or 3rd party apps, not necessarily the OS itself.

I get an Intellisync error when it tries to sync my organizer info. It says "Unknown error reported"
I tried downgrading Desktop Manager to 4.2, but that didn't help.
Any thoughts?

Do you have the "Messages" icon? After an OS upgrade there is usually a welcome message placed in that folder.

On the home screen? From the home screen hit the menu key and select "show all." Then go to "Messages."

i installed this yesterday i noticed absolutely nothing besides having more free memory, even with many apps opened. I am looking forward to 4.5 unlocking the video cam, streaming video and hopefully support for 8gb sdhc cards.. that would be SWEET (to hell with those crap iphones..)

Most of the incremental upgrades are bug fixes only. You may or may not notice differences.

Install went fine for the most part. However, my BB Maps is gone now!
Still shows in my list of Applications but the icon is gone with no way to access it.
Used the Application Loader to remove and reinstall it but still nada.
Changed my theme back to the default AT&T then throughout the other three I have installed and it still wont show up.
Any ideas on how to get this back??

Nope did that too and only hidden icons are Compose and Saved Messages.
It used to live right next to the Telenav icon but now nothing..

AT&T is beginning to require a service book be pushed to your device for BB Maps to work. It may not work for now, until you get that service book.

Ahh bummer. Is this something I can grab manually or do I just wait on AT&T to automatically push it out to the phone??

Excellent.
You might still lose it again in the future if this AT&T crap happens, if they begin requiring a service book for it to operate. They control the push of the service book.

Hopefully there will be a workaround hehe. I just got the Curve last week and was quite displeased to learn that everything I wanted it for (AIM/Yahoo/MSN/GPS/etc) costs MORE money on top of what I already had. I was under the impression that BB Maps did not work with AT&T (Cant remember where I read that) but was stoked the other night while sitting at a friends house and I watched it track me by satellite hehe. Guess theres always Google maps as well but with a $109 a month bill for voice/data/messaging, I WONT be paying another $30 or so for the Telenav service! Bad enough Im going to end up buying Jivetalk just to use Instant Messaging! (Until them Pidgin devs port Pidgin hehe)
