Talking OS: 8310 4.2.2.351 / 4.2.2.194 Tim Italy - 03-18-2008, 02:27 AM

Software For BlackBerry Curve 8310 (TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.351 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.2.351
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.2.2.194
Software Platform: 2.5.0.44
File name: 8310M_PBr4.2.2_rel351_PL2.5.0.44_A4.2.2.194_TIM.ex e
File size: 97.25MB

Click -->>>>https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...190CAAD5802983 and select 8310 from the list

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8310:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

To find the previous OS version for this device, click

You are one of the kind...

Until 4.5/4.3 is out, this OS is the newest and I am pretty sure a lot of people (other than you) will be happy to try this out.

Obviously, this is not for you

Cool - will give it a try.

4.5 would be fine, but there is NO defintiv release date, so why wait for this? If 4.5 would have not ben announced everybody would say "4.2.2.194 - COOL, a new release". I would be laughin if they call the 4.5er firmware 4.2.2.500

Unhappy Problem Loading OS - 03-18-2008, 07:38 PM

I have had a problem loading the last two OS releases. I go through all the steps to load the new OS (as described above) and after it has loaded the new OS and rebooted the BB, in the final steps of reloading the data (I think "loading phone settings" is displayed on the update manager progress window) the progress bar halts. I look at the BB and it says, "App Error 523, reset". No option but to select "reset". Then the apploader (on the desktop) aborts the final steps of loading. The BB reboots. I finish the loading of data via a restore of the backup made during the update process in the desktop manager. Everything seems to work fine (no errors during use or reboots), but it should finish the update properly, right? It does show the new OS version in the About pages, etc. And all the 3rd party apps work fine. Any ideas?

I installed this update and now the camera application is missing from my phone. Anyone know how to get it installed again without downgrading to a previous OS?

Double check that the icon is not hidden.

The application was actually missing. I modified the platform.alx file and reloaded the OS and now it works properly.

I installed early this morning and so far have had no problems. Feels a tad bit faster than 4.2.2.184.

I installed this yesterday and since then my browser no longer works. It continually says ' A communication failure has occurred. The server may be busy, please try again later. If the problem persists please contact your service provide.'
This happens on every site. Anyone else have this problem?

I had a similar issue also. When mine rebooted, it automatically set the browser to TZones. Resetting it through options to Internet/Hotzone Browser eliminated the issue for me.

Remember to put in the APN configuration. At least I have to change it back to wap.voicestream.com (no username or password) for T-Mobile after I upgrade OS.

Just because you don't see any improvements doesn't mean there isn't any.

True true. Even though your phone was working just fine before, and appears to be working identically now, there MAY still be improvements. Just not any that apparently matter...

I tried to download with no luck. Everytime low speed and lost connections.

Thank you.

As NCBuckeye mentions, this is in violation of the RIM terms for many technical, legal and logical reasons. Some of which:

- ensures that a user downloads a non-tampered copy of the OS install from RIM itself
- contains "strong cryptography" which is legally barred from being transmitted from the US or Canada to some countries (anyone remember the old Netscape 128bit browser days?)
- allows them to track device/download statistics, something a commercial company needs to do

Of course there are more reasons, but this is just a glimpse as to why you don't see BlackBerry firmware widely hosted on sites other than the official ones (whether it be RIM directly or carrier hosted like T-Mobile).

What's with the v4.3 b25 on BB.com? Isn't that good? I just got my 8310 and have b25, what are its issues?

RIM really needs to have public changelogs with these things...

They do. they provide them only to the carriers. The carriers choose not to release change logs to us.

I did the upgrade and everything seemed to work fine, but my BES mailbox didn't come back. I have 2 BIS mailboxes and they came back, but not the primary BES. What did I do wrong? Is there anyway to get it back?

Just thought I'd post a quick update on my earlier ? regarding my BES mailbox. Turns out I didn't have to do anything. I'd upgraded from home where I only have Desktop Manager configured for BIS. This is so I can sync Calendar, Tasks, etc. with my home Outlook. Anyway, once I got to work and attached to that copy of Desktop Manager (which is configured for BES), it automatically fired off the Activation routine and in a few minutes everything was back! The upgrade is now working perfectly.

An update: I tried reinstalling DM 4.3 and received the same messages. Deleted DM 4.3 and installed DM 4.2.2 and now everything is working correctly.
