Default Battery life using 8310 as an MP3 player - 04-12-2008, 11:25 AM

Hello all:

Not new to the Blackberry, but new using it as a MP3 player. I travel alot so decided I may want to limit the amount of "things" I bring with me, one of them being a dedicated MP3 player.

How long has the battery lasted when using it as an MP3 player ?
Will I get the same life as the talk time, if I wsa to use it as a phone or should I get longer ??

Thank you

Well, I'm not sure if I'm the best one to respond to this as I use the Seidio 2600 mah extended battery, I have used my Curve with a 4GB card for listening to podcasts while traveling. I also use it daily for playing music in the bathroom while I get ready for work during the week. I just hook up some cheap old PC speakers to the phone jack and drop a towel over the phone to keep the steam out. Works great. Not so good for podcasts because it doesn't fast-forward or rewind very well --and it can lose it's place which is a real nightmare when your podcast is 2 hours long! All that aside, I've NEVER run my battery down playing just MP3's. I've not actually tried to run it all day long but I have hardly noticed a dent in my power consumption from using it that way. I'm sure talking on the phone takes a lot more juice as there is transmitting / receiving going on that isn't when you're just playing tunes.

...anyone else?

To answer your question, you have to understand that no one app can determine your battery power?
For example,m will you be keeping your radio connection on while you are using your device?
video also seems to eat more than audio. for audio only and e-mailing at the same time, i get about 4 or 5 hrs assuming I am in an area that enables me a strong signal.

A lot less. Today just to run down the battery on my pearl, I put a video on repeat, when the bat had 20% left, and in 20 min it was @ 0% but didn't die. So I imagine 90 min or less with a video with a full battery? Also it depends on your device. Hehe. I hope this helps .

The 8310 has a higher capacity battery for one thing, and the amount of charge left can determine quite a few things.

I watched 5 episodes of Family Guy the other day, back to back; each of them was roughly 22-25 minutes long. When I started, I had about 90%-95% battery, and when I was done, I had 50% battery left. During this time I was in good coverage area, didn't receive any emails, texts, or phone calls; and had no other apps running outside of the defaults that you can't turn completely off, and the media player of course.

The mileage will always vary depending on the user, but I would feel confident in saying that you should get at least 3-4 hours of continuous video before getting super low, and you should probably get at least 6-8 hours of audio, if not more.

Agreed,at least. I only had my 8310 for a week and I didnt have to charge it yet -5 days, turned it off over night- allthough I was watching some episodes of scrubs and stuff on the bus and listening to music all the time; like I said, 5 days and its at 35% now...oh well.

I have used mine as a music player on a nearly 2 hour train ride. It was fully charged (unplugged an hour prior) so battery was probably around 95%. After the ride the battery was only down to about 75%. Bear in mind that I just letv it run and didn't fiddle with the song list too much. Kind of set it and forget it ;)

songs without bluetooth, i can get 6-7 hours on my curve. on the pearl its 4-5. 88xx its 7-8. with bluetooth, take 75-80% of that, and thats roughly the life you will get. Video, i can watch 3-4 hours on the 83xx, 2-3 hours on the 81xx, 4-4.5 hours ish on the 88xx. Video is roughly equal to continous talk to in my experience. songs w/ bluetooth takes a bit less, and songs w/o bluetooth a bit less than that.

I just received my 4gb microSD card, and have loaded up some songs, but how are you able to get TV shows on the BB? Are you doing this through iTunes? I am unable to play any of my iTunes songs on the BB due to DRM, so I was assuming the same applied to iTune TV shows, etc...
