If you open the video recorder app (if you have it) you can press 'space' to change between flash off, flash on, and auto flash.

- Drop the remote behind the bed? use your BB instead of walking to the kitchen to find a flashlight
- climb into the attic (or basement) and forget your flashlight? Handy BB thats right on your hip will work.
- Drop change in your car seat? BB will work better than a flashlight.

Unless I found myself outside everynight (which I was frequently while I was deployed to Iraq) or work in a dark environment where I needed an flashlight on a daily, I just couldn't see carrying around a flashlight no matter what the size.

For probably 9 outta 10 people a simple $4 program to enable the LED light or a free work around mod that requires a few button pushes (like 4.5 os going to the video function and having the auto flash enabled) on a BB will be more practicle than paying for and carrying a flashlight.

You can't imagine carrying around a flashlight? You know what happens when the sun goes down each day, right? It gets dark.

You have never been caught in a power outage?

The Arc AAA & similar flashlights are no bigger than a AAA battery and there is no reason that you could not carry one on your person every day.

I'm much more of a "be prepared" person than 99% of the people out there, so I understand that, but I also cannot really understand the "why would you ever carry a knife/flashlight/gun" mentality either.

I carry the tools I carry for the same reason I wear a seat belt when I drive my car and have car insurance - because $&!t happens.

Granted, we all agree we won't be using this application as a permenant solution, we look at the BB as a "swiss-army-knife" of the cell phones. Of course, it's a phone, first and foremost, but it's got a ton of features (and more to come) in an all-in-one package that makes life so convenient (at least mine).

EDIT: Had to laugh when I read this thread. LINK

Talk about self-contradiction.

I was just curious - I have no intention of using my curve to record voice notes, I was just wondering if it had the capability.

It sure does. Do some searching on this forum and you should find a couple of apps for it. I personally LOVE using BigHand Digital Dictation --and it's free!!

That app only makes the screen white. It doesn't light the LED.

I am new to the forum and a new blackberry owner. I know there are some people on here smart enough to figure this out. I work in service and always have a need for a light. my flashlight always seems to go out at the worst times.
That is one bright light on the BB and we need to know how to turn it on/off
