Default Keypad Unlock - 04-23-2008, 03:01 PM

Hi there I am new to this forum but a previous Blackberry owner. I did a search to try and solve my problem but I did not find a solution. I just purchased a Blackberry Curve 8320 and the phone always locks when it shuts off, even after 15 seconds. Now to use the phone again you have to enter your password which comes very annoying. So basically every time you pick it up you have to unlock it with a password again. So my question is, is there way to get this feature off. Now when I go into my options -> security options -> general settings the password says it is enabled and the is a red dot beside it (it may be a tiny picture of a lock) and there seems to be no way to disable it. My old 8703 would only lock if I locked it which is the way I would prefer this new phone to work.

Thanks,

Gus

Gus, welcome to the BBForums.

Are you on a corporate BES? Where did you buy this 8320 from?

It appears from your description, that it has an IT Policy on it, which requires locking after 15 seconds of idle.

I bought this phone off of ebay since this model is not being sold in Canada yet and I wanted the wifi. Right now I just have sim card in it from my work cel phone to see how it works, I have to get a blackberry plan in the next day or so. What you describe is exactly what is happening. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks again for your reply

I don't think there is an easy fix. My friend's phone does this (his company phone) and no way to disable it. I think you will have to hack it to remove this feature. Wish I could've been more help...

If you are not under a company IT Policy, then you can remove it. If you are so, I would not recommend it, it could cost you a job, or least some finger wagging.

Nope no company IT policy, it's just a personal phone. I'll try and fix it from the link you sent me.

Thanks

It appears you bought a used device with one on it. You should leave appropriate feedback with your eBay seller, that should be something they catch and inform the seller of, as it can disable a number of features on a BB.

It was sold as "Brand New Unlocked Blackberry 8320". Well you win some and lose some I guess. I'm gonna contact him and let him know though. LOL I guess I should have come to this forum first

Gus, yes, you can clean the IT Policy and be happy. As far as the eBay seller, he won't care, he'll keep selling them, but we see your same question here several times a week--brand new off eBay. eBay sellers do not sell brand new BlackBerrys.

Well you know the old saying "live and learn". By the way I like your Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. That brings back a lot of good memories.

Thanks for all the help,

Gus
