Default Software updates?

Please Login to Remove!

I have had my Curve 8300 from AT&T for about 4-6 months and have not done anything to it. It was a refurbished phone, but find that it wants to shut down on its own for no reason. And it does it alot when accessing websites. The light on top turns red and the hour glass goes on for minutes.
I have not done any updates, and do not know which update is the newer versions. I have 4.2.2.89, platform 2.4.0.39. I don't know how new this is, but hope someone can shed some light on this for me and tell me what I need to do. Thanks

Hey geaux.fish, welcome to BBF!

That's old OS you got in there. Try to check out this link http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tim-italy.html
You might find good news when you upgrade to the latest.

thanks...ricpac,
what does TIM_Italy at the end of the path mean? Is it designed for the AT&T USA version?
Also, I have version 4.2.2.12 desktop manager on my computer. Is this OK or do I need a newer version and what would it be? What is Media Manager and Desktop Manager together? (the 332mb file) Thanks for your help...new to all this stuff. My hobby is fishing...lol.

TIM Italy--the carrier that released this OS. This would also work with your 8300 from AT&T provided that you carefully follow the instructions on the link I gave you--especially the deleting the vendor.xml file part.

As for the Desktop Manager, you can use this:

Quote:
Software For BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.2 Service Pack 2
BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 (English)
File name: Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 (English)
File size: 231 MB
Date posted: 18-May-07
Get it here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...N6tolev1vdrA**

The media manager--helps you manage your media files like music, photos and videos etc etc.

The thing I love about fishes is that they help me remember this: "Give the man a fish, you've fed him for the day... teach the man how to fish and you'd have fed him for life...

I am betting you are a cajun fish! Redfish, speckled trout or ?

You will be safe with TIM OS release. Just follow the directions in the thread to remove the vendor.xml file...

I do live in south Louisiana but I am Bass fisherman all the way! I will fish reds, specks, but Bass is it.

So, do not install desktop manager v4.3? I already downloaded v4.3 desktop manager w/ media manager, can I install it?
My current desktop manager when open has application loader, backup and restore, media manager, switch device wizard, and synchronization. Can someone explain what I will/will not get with the different downloads.

Also, you mention removing/deleting vendor.xml file, how do I do that?
Thanks for the help fellas, I do appreciate it.

4.3 doesn't work so well for some so that's why I recommended 4.2SP2--that's also what I have.

The instruction for deleting/removing the vendor.xml file is here (as I have posted up there ^^) http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tim-italy.html

Agreed, 4.3 is buggy with some people, I keep 4.2 SP2 on my office pc, but I did put 4.3 on the laptop. The Media Manager is not so great, I don't use it, I just drag and drop files to and from the BB and PC as needed, without the MM.

I fish bass also, my fav. But I have been down in the Chandalar Islands a couple times for reds and specks.

I don't know about mudskippers, looks like salamander to me. Ric, you can eat those.

Can I still upload the Tim_Italy update to my phone using the older version of desktop manager?
I think the version on the computer is 4.2.2.12 (Mar. 19 2007)

The reason I am asking its its a pain to get our computer guy to install programs on our work computers....he has them set to administrator and I dont' know the password. So, hopefully I can still install the update to my handheld, I am not that concerned about the newest desktop manager. I just want to get the latest OS update to my phone so that maybe it fixes alot of my complaints. Does anyone know what it does fix?
