Default BB Messenger - Help adding contact by PIN, not e-mail

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone! Has anyone encountered this problem?
I am new to the 8310. Just crossed over from an 8800.
I have a number of contacts on my address book with both e-mail addresses as well as PIN's.
When I try to add a contact to my bbmsngr, my berry only gives me the option of adding contact by e-mail only. No option by PIN OR e-mail. I can't find the option to "add by PIN". It's fairly frutrating.
What I have to do is this:
I go into the contact I wish to add in address book first, delete all thier e-mails, save, go back into bbmsngr, add contact which prompts me to add by pin, have the person accept, then go back to my address book and re-enter e-mail addresses!
Um, yea, annoying...
I have done the battery pulls, hard resets and even re-loaded the OS. No luck on searches here either...
If anyone has had this problem or knows how to fix it, please let me know?
Thanks everyone!
-Rudy

OS-4.2.2.194 (yea, I did the upgrade and it works like a charm. I had this problem with the stock OS too!)

Or add the contact to address book with pin, then select them in BBM

Actually, Nick, some users still have issues adding a contact by the address book option, and the sure-fire method of adding by PIN works best, in my experience.

You guys are quick!
Jsanders:
I just tried the "use once" and my menu only give me:
continue
show symbols
switch input language
cancel
switch application
NickfromIL:
I added a few contacts that way and still no go.
I just tried it again now, my gf has the 8330 and still no go...

Thanks for the quick reply guys... Any other ideas?

What OS are you running?

It will work on 4.2, which you should have. Just follow the directions above, exactly.

Really odd, I don't know why then. We have added by PIN that way for a long time.

I know!
Its really strange that the "option" of adding by e-mail or PIN would be gone.
No problems on the 8800 and even the 8700.
But this is new.
I appreciate the help guys!
Please let me know if you've heard of this elsewhere will you?
Thanks.

My first thing to do would be to pull the battery and reboot, and try again.

When you are on use once, you are hitting the menu key right? Maybe you can post some screenshots.

HEY! Thanks for looking at this Stinsonddog! Much appreciated man...
I am not too technically inclined to post screens, but I guess I cold do it guerilla. I really have no idea how to do screens on my berry actually. I could use a camera and post... I'll try this first.
When I 'hit' use once in address book then get to the "e-mail" part, I get this after i use 'menu':

continue
show symbols
switch input language
cancel
switch application

However, when I do it your way, I get half my problem solved.
When i hover over the "use once" option and hit menu, i get:

Request by email
Request by pin
filter
etc...

So, when I choose e-mail, ok.
But when I choose "pin", of course, I can enter the contacts PIN number and there we go.
I was just hoping to add contact, select the contact from address book then be able to have the option of adding and pick either email or pin.
Sorry if that sounds confusing, but when i select a name from the address book, i don't get the option.
when people send me contact cards for work and other companies and such, all thier info is basically neat and pretty. Saving me from going back and forth.
I know, sounds lazy as all hell. I was just hoping to add people to my bbmsngr through address book, then pin for convenience sake.
Thanks for your input.
It is much appreciated.

if they are in your address book when you go to add them in BBM it will automatically add them. ie, JSanders is in your address book with a PIN of FFFFFFFF, and you go into your BBM, hit menu > add contact > scroll to JSanders > click the track ball. A message is automatically sent to JSanders to confirm being added.

Hi Sith, I appreciate the input.
Oh yes, that is no problem at all. My msngr will add anyone i ask it too.
However, my problem is that it tries to add people without the option to add by pin. bbmsngr only lets me add by email. hence my dilema...
A lot of contacts have gmail/hotmail/and of course thier work e-mail accounts. so i get forever pendings when trying to add by e-mail. either they are wrong or... i have no idea.
this is why I was hoping to get the option by adding by pin when selecting someone through the address book and opting for pin...
Thanks again.

to add by pin scroll up to use once and DO NOT select it. Hit menu (with use once highlighted) > request by PIN

Hey Sith,
Yea, I will have to go that route.
Laziness aside, that is my best option.
Thank you everyone for your time and input!
It's much appreciated.
This is why I love BBforums.

I thought it would work. Thanks for validating one of my more saner moments.

Hi JSanders,
LOL... Yea, that is what you suggested to do. And on that note, it works like a charm.
Its just that I am lazy and would like the proccess to be:
msngr
menu
add contact
**then just select a contact from my address book.
!! then, after i select the person, I can CHOOSE whether to add them by e-mail OR pin. When I add someone this way, I don't get the option to choose by pin. Even by searching in the menu option. I can only add the person by e-mail address if they have an e-mail address in there.

When I do it your way, I have to manually enter the pin number instead of just selecting the contact through the address book.
In other words, you know when you email someone and when you select who you want to e-mail, you can CHOOSE which e-mail address to use?
Well, I am looking for that option when I add someone to msngr. However, my berry wont give me a pin option when I select the person from the address book.
I am sorry if this sounds confusing, but in truth, I am somewhat lazy and was looking to add someone using this method out of convenience.
Thanks again for your input, I appreciate it.
And YES! Validation of sanity is seconded my me... LOL.

Well--a hint, OS4.5 makes adding by PIN slightly easier, less steps.

If it is any consolation, you will also be able to select you Address Book contact AND then it will show all available email addresses for THAT contact, as well as their PIN, and YOU choose.

Just wait.

In BBMessenger OS 4.2 you can do Add Contact >Highlight Contact and press menu (not trackball) and select add using PIN if the contact's pin is already in your address book.
