Thumbs down Blackberry said No!!! - 04-28-2008, 01:45 PM

Hey...

I have recent purchased off a friend a Blackberry Curve 8310.

It's on T-mobile. I want to use it on O2.

I requested my unlock code from T-mobile but they have written back saying blackberry cannot unlock this device!!!

I have heard about reloading software on the blackberry device. Will this work or will i still need to unlock.

I really need some help please. Im in the UK btw.

I am desperate to start using the blackberry!!

Thanks

I don't think RIM has anything to do with it, T-Mobile has to give the instructions, and they may not provide the codes. Reloading software, or installing the O2 version won't unlock it. There are some services that offer unlocking services. I have not used them, but Bongo Wireless offers an unlock service for $80 Canadian, you do not send them the device.

It may also still be locked on Tmobile if the previous owner owes them $$.

Did TMo state why not? If you are not their customer, that is a good reason, they won't do it for non-account holders.

You can buy it from an unlock vendor, a good reputable one is HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, Canada’s Cellular Repair Center ß

The letter from t-mobile say blackberry cannot supply the unlocking pin. Thats it! T-mobile have all the right info but are sayin blackberry can't unlock the phone.

Well, then you are stuck, unless you wish to follow the advice above and in your other posts.

I am worried that if I pay money on a unlock site and they can't do it then I'm stuck again. Also I have to wait for another few weeks?

Oh well maybe its not to be?! But I spent £200 on the phone :(

There definetly wasn't anything owed on the account and T-mobile have told they unlock any T-mobile phone for £15.00. But t-mobile wrote back saying Blackberry can't unlock some phones?!?

If you are not on a contract with o2 why not get one with T mobile? They have the best BB Tariff in the UK.

It is maybe either that or get your money back from your friend if the BB cannot be unlocked. A reputable unlocking service will refund your money if they cannot obtain an unlock code for your device.

Can you ask the friend to get the unlock code from TMO for you? I just called TMO two weeks ago and they unlocked mine. Or rather they put in the paperwork to have mine unlocked and I received the instructions a couple of days later.

@mddlrthr2, I think he's already requested an unlock code from TMobile and they are unable to unlock it.

Most of the unlockers will not charge you if they can't unlock your device. I will second the suggestion above of HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, Canada’s Cellular Repair Center ß. He's a member of this forum and is one of the main sources for unlock codes for BB's. If he can't unlock it nobody can.

T-Mobile doesn't sell or offer an 8310, AT&T does...So T-Mobile won't have an unlock code for that device, I don't think.

Sorry bud, your friend probably got it from AT&T and then switched to TMO, or bought it off someone else...who knows. But if its an 8310, its an AT&T device probably

When you boot it up does it have a T-Mo or ATT splash screen?

have your friend do it for you, you have to be a t-mobile customer in order for them to unlock the phone.
