I have IMAP linked to one of my mail servers. Was hoping for an on/off option on the phone, so email wasn't constantly downloading to it. Only want to get email on demand or when I'm away from the office.

Any ideas how to enable / disable email services without deleting the account and re-creating it?

Sorry for the double post.

Thanks,
you can turn off the data services but that is it.

I already apologised and know forum standards. Thanks. It wasn't intentional.

BIG O. If you are just trying to disable email and are using BIS you can login to the BIS site and uncheck "Forward to the Handheld". This will stop the email until you re-check it. You will not get emails received during the time it stopped. It will re-start from that point in time.

That's interesting. Haven't looked at setting up BIS, but currently using IMAP. Would you mind posting a link on where to go for BIS? Have heard about it, but unfamiliar. While away from the office, wanted to control how much email went to the phone. That sounds a lot easier than writing a script to control IMAP. Thanks.

If not BIS then what are you currently using?

Here is the link on BIS:

There's also an option in the Inbox to stop mail delivery: Inbox -> Options -> Email Settings. Set "Send Email to Handheld" to No. I don't know if that works for any connectivity type (BES/BIS/whatever), I've not played with it much.

My mistake, I messed up the terminology. On the BB device, the inbox is called "Messages". Once in there, press the Menu key to find Options.

Is this just for bis/bes settings? I wish I could set to check email manually or twice a day. Its a bit a p.i.t.a when ya get a text for every email, spam or whatever. I have 4 email addresses set on the curve. And its forever letting me know I have a message. Worse case I guess I'll have to delete the email accounts.

The "Send email to handheld" is not available on my model. Does anyone else have the setting on their 8320?

Send Email to Handheld setting may be just for BES, I don't recall if it was available before I got connected to my BES.

It is just for BES (as well as editing filters, out of office, etc).

You can:
1) turn data off -- email will queue
2) disable mail delivery via the BIS site -- email will not queue
3) block BIS with the firewall -- email will not queue

Not sure if there are other useful options out there but one of those should fit your situation.

Nice call with the firewall. Much easier to control the flow of email by enabling or disabling blackberry email services than logging into the t-mobile site and editing the email account (which is another option).
