OK, I tried searching the site to see if someone has already answered this question and I didn't seem to find anything so, here goes:

I have AT&T. I want to be able to use the GPS feature on my 8310 (I'm expecting it in the mail today). I know that I will need the data plan; that's not my question. My question is this: On AT&T's site, you can look at miscellaneous plan features. One of the features is called AT&T Navigator Unlimited. It is separate from the MEdiaMax Unlimited plan feature (which I plan on getting) and costs an addition $9.99/month. Is it required to have this plan feature to use the GPS function on the 8310 or will the data plan suffice? I sure would like to save $10, considering the MEdiaMax Unlimited plan is $35... Any help is appreciated!

You do not need to use at&t navigator/Telenav. You can use any GPS app for the BB. Please refer to the GPS forum for more information as GPS is not unique to the 83xx series. There's a lot of good info already posted there.

Your data plan alone won't work in place of a GPS app. You need:

1. A BB with a GPS receiver (check).
2. A GPS app. Try several out and see which works best for you.
3. A data plan if your GPS app requires it for map data.

I'd recommend Telenav but I have no idea what you expect from a GPS app and what you're willing to pay.


FYI -- You need a BB data plan (which is why they put the BB name on those data plans). Media Max plans are not for Blackberries.

It is not required to have AT&T Nav in order to use the GPS feature.

Get a Blackberry Unlimited plan for $30.00 and the free program called Nav4All. There are many other free programs that are great, nav4all is a turn by turn voice program. Note that the Unlimited Data plan is for e-mail and data only. Text messages are not included. That is a an additional plan.

OK, so.. I got my 8310 yesterday. I got the unlimited data and 200 messages for $35. I went with google maps because i don't need the turn-by-turn voice guidance and I'm just a sucker for google. I also got the bphone icon theme... I couldn't be happier at the moment.

that plan seems like a ripoff to me. I am getting unlimited blackberry data and 1500 messages for $29.99.

That does sound like a better deal. Are you 1500 text messages built in to the calling plan you have? I pay $99.99 unlimited talk time, $30 for unlimited BB data $5 for 200 text messages and $4 for the internation calling plan, $139 all together.

I rarely send texts, but have some people that send them to me. My old carrier incoming text messages were free, so I never worried about a text plan.

the texts were included in the BB data package, not my voice.
