Default SOS mode ?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi to everyone,

I am new to this forum and I am from Belgium. I now have a Curve 8320 since a month or two and I am delighted.

Today, I am a bit in panic because somehow my BB turned itself (?) under the SOS mode. I put it in my trousers pocket and I assume something got wrong with keyboad and scrolling wheel.

When typing my password, first digit does not show as a star on screen.

It is only when I want to type in second digit I see first star on screen.

Since I am left with two attemps only, I don't dare trying again.

I already took off the battery hopeing it would help but it didn't. I am still on SOS mode.

Has someone already been faced with such issue?

Please, can anyone help me. Thanks a million in advance.

Is your phone backed up? If so, go ahead and give it another two shots and if it wipes, you got a backup already to get everything back. All 3rd party apps are easy to get back, the main thing you need is your PIM data. I normally try to keep a list of 3rd party apps that I currently have so if I need to wipe, I can get all of them back. Another way is to do the "back up 3rd party apps" thing that is posted on this forum somewhere. It works pretty good and saves you the trouble of download them all again. Search for it and you should find it.

Now on to your SOS problem. The only time I've seen an "SOS" is when I'm off of the network and not roaming onto another. So the only time I've seen it, it had to do with the network and nothing to do with the phone itself. Sorry I can't help you out with that because I've never seen it.

thanks for your answer.

Currently, I did not do any backup (it is a company BB, not my own). I saved some sms and I know some people smsed me since then. I do not want to loose the sms.

If wiped, will I loose everything? I mean will I loose saved sms, pictures, music? I am not so worried about emails coz I can still read them on my computer.

I would better wait some help from our IT dept.

Thanks again.

I thought that if you fail to enter a password correctly in whatever number of password attempts your BB is set to then there will be a security timeout of whatever time it is set to. I don't recall changing my security timeout, so perhaps the default is 1 hr. That doesn't seem like it would wipe out the BB, just timeout for an hour. Perhaps it's worth checking your Curve manual to clarify this.

Sometimes I type two characters and it ignores the first. I just press delete to clear the password entry and make sure that if I type 2 characters, I see 2 *'s.

You will loose almost everything except some 3rd party apps. It will wipe your messages, addresses, phone log, all of your PIM data and some of the installed apps. Some apps stay for some reason.

It is now resolved. It was a misunderstanding. I did something wrong and BB was asking for my pin code and I red password. Obviously, when keying my password, it did not work.

I had to enter my sim card pin code. Someone at the office told me. Now I know.

thanks for your help any way guys. I'm happy coz BB is back on.
