Default Curve and Gmail

Please Login to Remove!

Greetings,

Long time listener, first time caller... I have the Curve set up to receive emails from my Gmail account using IMAP. I can send and receive emails with no trouble whatsoever, love the phone and it's applications. Here's the rub...

Sometimes I don't want to be bothered with incoming emails so I navigate to Settings>Mobile Network>Data Services>OFF. That makes it so I can send and receive text messages, but not get emails. Great!

The problem comes when a week later I know I'll be travelling and I want to enable the Data Services to send and receive emails. When I turn that setting back to ON, my Curve downloads EACH AND EVERY email since the last time the Data Services was turned off. Even those that I've checked using my email client or a browser at the Gmail site. Sometimes it's over 100 emails which I've already seen.

Can someone help me find the setting which will prevent my Curve from downloading emails which i've already checked in my email client or at Gmail?

Thank you very much for the help!

Pedro

You need to suspend your email in BIS. Either delete when you want to turn it off (and add again later) or see what you can do in the filter setup with the do not forward setting.

But there is no automatic setting unfortunately.

True. Didn't mean to leave that impression.

Sorry to be so dense, but I just searched around here for "bis" and realized I never set up a Blackberry Internet Service, per se..... I got my device, paid for a data plan, and added my Gmail account info (IMAP settings) to the phone email settings....

Do I need BIS? Will that mean having another email addy to deal with?

Thanks,
Pedro

You have BIS. Your carrier has a web portal.

See if this helps: http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/W...BIS_account%3F.

Yes, thank you. I've been to that page on my computer, but I have no username or password so I try to create an account and it pukes back "can't do this from an HTML browser". So i try to do it from my Curve and it gets stuck at "Creating an account... please wait..." and stays at that screen for 20 minutes.

And all i ever wanted to do was check emails with the BB when i wanted....

That error rings a bell, but I can't remember what I read. Have you tried searching here on the forum on that phrase? Maybe someone else can point you straight to the solution.

Thanks aiharkness,

I was able to create my account on the BB, but when i go to the pc to login (as recommended in the great link you sent me to) i still get a "please check your information and try again" error when i enter in my newly created username and password. Tried it several times so i know i've entered it correctly...

This is becoming much more of a pain than simply deleting the 100 new messages that appear on the Curve when i connect to Data Services... couldn't just be a simple process.

Thank you for your help today!
