My daughter got a Curve 8330 with Alltel on Friday. We have been trying
to install the desktop software since then and everytime we get the same
error message #1720 which states "there is a problem with Windows Installer
Pkg...A script required for this install to complete could not be run."

Now we have tried everything we could find on the internet to fix this problem so it would install...we have updated Microsoft Installer, we have disabled firewall, turned off Anti-virus, etc. but nothing has worked. It is not the disk, we tried to install on husband's computer and it would do it fine, however, my daughter needs software on her computer.

Anyone have any help with this matter. As I said, we have googled, yahooed, etc trying to find the answer and have not been able to find where anyone having this problem has said they were able to fix it.

Even did a search on here and basically found that it said in 1/08 not to use the 4.3 software because of too many glitches, however, not sure that is still true 4 mos later.

Can anyone help? And again we have done all the microsoft downloads to no avail.

Take a look at BlackBerry Search Results. My money is on your antivirus software.

If you can't solve the problem, a solution might be to install version 4.2 SP2. Many here recommend that, anyway. If you get 4.3 to work good for you, fine; but you may find it to be flakey.

We did uninstall the antivirus software that was on the computer because we were wanting to change her over to what we have. So we tried to load it without any antivirus on and it still did the same thing. And tried after we loaded new antivirus, with same results.

I have an 8830, could I use my Desktop software for her since my 8830 doesn't have a camera or does she need software that recognizes that she has a camera? Sorry I'm so illiterate but my blackberry is the first one in the family so this is trial and error for us.

I'm so excited I can actually help somebody this time instead of other way around. I also got that error. If you go to Microsoft (or actually might even be AT&T I forget now I'l be honest) website and just do a search for that error it'll tell you what to do. You have to download a small patch I guess you would call it. Hope this helps!

shoppergirl, there were two other possibilites in that article. Was your problem either of those?

Desktop Manager is not specific to model. There is a 4.2 that includes the media manager, and one without. But it makes no difference what model blackberry.

I downloaded the Microsoft Script 5.7 and the software loaded with no problems.

Excellent! I lost the bet (antivirus). I guess the lesson may be that the first suggestion in those blackberry articles is the most likely issue.
