GPS not working - 8310 Hey guys Im having some problems with my GPS on my 8310 Ive made sure its on and everything but when i turn on BB maps and click on 'Find Location - Where I Am' it just searches... ...and searches... ...and searches... And the other day i tried it again in the middle of town at a cafe, hoping for better results from a built up area, and i forgot about it, and when i came back to it 20 mins later it was still saying 'searching...' Any ideas from anyone? Cheers |
help anyone? =( |
For GPS to lock on, you need to be outside with a clear view of the sky. This is especially important if it is the initial connection or if it has been longer than 7 days since the last connection. The device has to download the ephemeris tables so it knows where in the sky to look. That can take a while. Then it has to find the satellites which can also take several minutes. You need at least 3 good sats to get a good position. Loacating yourself on the map as close as possible also helps. I have seen it take upwards of 10 minutes before you get a "fix". You might try using GoogleMaps and clink current location to help speed the process. Google uses cell towers to triangulate and figure out where you are in lieu of GPS. |
Thanks Dubdub, much appreciated Can you get GoogleMaps as a 'Berry app? Im sure ive seen it mentioned... |
Doe, go to Options > Advanced > GPS. Press Menu > Refresh GPS. Do this outside, in a clear view of the sky... it could take ten minutes. |

well duh, of course, that was a bloody riot. You not being able to get GPS has no drama or excitement to it. |
