Works fine on the Mac at home; plug-in, auto sync, no problems.

At work, the removable device alert shows up as usual, but nothing shows up on Desktop, and then Desktop eventually crashes (XP). Using the "detect" button seems to work (returns the device PIN), but .... nothing. Rebooted, same problem.

Thoughts?

I would recommend trying it on 4.2 SP2.

4.3? You mean I should over-install 4.2? OK.

I had a similar problem when I installed DM from Verizon's web site. I uninstalled everything and reg traces and then reinstalled the disk from the box again. all working fine now.

Correct, but I would uninstall 4.3 first.

I would normally advise also--make sure the BB is plugged to the USB port on the PC directly--not through a USB hub or a USB port on a monitor.

Also, pull the battery and let the BB reboot, as well as the PC... and try again.

Might try deleting the Blackberry folder from Documents & Settings\userfolder\application data\research in motion.

Next time you connect, it will recreate itself.

This trick works almost every time I have a user call with the not syncing/DM crash problem.

(also, what JSanders said...sometimes they don't like to be plugged into a USB hub or through a laptop docking station)

ah... have been going through my Dell monitor the whole time, working most of the time up until now.

Works fine on Mac AND XP on Parallels at home...
Sigh.

I would remove it from the Dell monitor and go direct to the USB port on on the CPU.

Uninstalled; reinstalled, uninstalled; installed 4.2, uninstalled (incl. user info); reinstalled 4.3... works.

Uninstall DM & BB software from your desktop then delete all RIM folders. Should solve it.
