Default Tmobile APN Help

Please Login to Remove!

So i just got a Curve 8320, and i'm on BIS. Everything is working fine so far, google maps, google sync, IM clients, Gmail(other than it taking forever for notifications). But I noticed in tcp settings that the APN is blank. Is this normal/correct?

Yes, it is normal for the APN field to be empty.

I have a slightly different question I would love to have answered.

First, I have read many of the FAQs and threads but I still am not sure what the APN setting is really doing. Is it like an access point you would use at home to connect wirelessly?

Is it more or less a proxy for apps that do not go through the BB servers?

One last question. I'm using midpssh and I am not able to ssh to a local machine in my LAN at home. It appears that the connection is going through the APN (wap.voicestream.com) and, of course, my local machine name/ip is not found from that context.

How do I fix this?

Thanks!

It is a direct TCP connection to TMobile's data. It's not associated with wifi except that with a UMA connection you could access it. Some older applications only connect through TCP.

thanks for the reply... i "think" that makes sense. i'm new to the whole mobile/data/bb scene so it's unfamiliar to me.

what about the ssh question? how do i access something in the local LAN?
i had to set up the APN for midpssh to work but i can't access a local machine either by name or ip.
