Default Well for cripes sake! (parden my language) - 05-29-2008, 02:52 PM

My rear cover clasp on my two week old Curve 8330 is broken. Geeez!

It's come loose on one side and now sits at at odd angle with one side up higher than the plain of the rear cover.

Dang!

I can see this getting ugly. Sure "The Big V" will replace the unit but then I have to reset it to all my preferences, apps, contacts, everything.... I don't have time.

Dang! (Did I say that already?)

Just use the Desktop Manager and do a backup. Get the new device plug it in and restore. All of your settings, data, contacts, phone logs will be as they were on the last device.

Back it up, and take it back.
Then reload from back-up.

It will reload apps, setting and all?

What about the PIN?

Your PIN will change. All settings will be the same. Can't guarantee the applications but it should if you stick with the same model.

3rd party applications will not be backed up using the Backup feature in desktop Manager. Use this for 3rd party app backups:

You can also just replace that latch:

I forgot about your super secret 3rd party applications backup thread! Good stuff! I wish I had this info when I bricked my device! Would have saved a lot of pain!

Well, I didn't invent that one but I did make a post about it. I finally started doing it before every OS load after one went bad and it took me hours to get them all downloaded again.

You may have to get new keys for apps requiring one. Software keys are usually tied to a phone's PIN, which shall change if you get a new phone.

Default Pics of the broken clasp (where to post) - 05-29-2008, 10:46 PM

How do I post a pic of the broken clasp?

Backup seemed to go well enough, thanks John.
