Ringtone technical question
 
Hey everyone....

I've got a ringtone that I made (mp3) and when I listen to the sound file by itself (Media>Ring Tones), the tone plays all 27 seconds of it. When the phone rings or by listening to it when trying to change ringtones, the file only plays about 21 seconds of it.

Think the file and or the transfer got corrupted somehow? It is the same file that I can listen to in the ringtones folder correct?

After a certain amount of time, the call goes to voice mail.

What about the pre-loaded tunes that play 30-40 seconds? Would they be cut off too?

Probably.
As a caller, I'd be pretty upset if the person I called had a 3 minute song as their ringtone and I had to wait til it was over to get to voicemail.
You gotta draw the line somewhere. ;-)
About 20 seconds of ringing is pretty normal. (4-5 rings)

You're right....I just tested it with the Calypso tune (31 seconds) and it shut off after 20-21 seconds.

Now....is there any way to get voicemail to pick up a little bit later?

You'd have to call your carrier and ask if this is a setting that can be adjusted.
Some will allow it.

Probably easier to just modify the tone.....

AT&T will change it for you. There is also a GSM code that you should be able to enter from your phone to change it yourself.

  4. To verify that the settings are correct, enter *#61#[SEND] into your phone.

I followed all the instructions but when I went to verify, it only shows the number that the calls get forwarded to.

The verification only shows that you didn't mess up the call forwarding number.

AFAIK, there's no way to 'see' the new delay value. You will have to test it by calling your cell phone.

You could google "GSM CODES" to find the various GSM codes... but so far I have not seen a code to display the value...

Three things come to mind:

1. Make sure you entered everything correctly, including the # and * characters

2. Try a battery pull afterwards.

3. I have never done this with a Blackberry - but I did use this successfully with my previous phone (Moto RAZR). GSM is GSM, so the actual phone should not matter.

I've entered all the numbers correctly....maybe the system takes time to catch up????

Actually, there's been reports of several GSM codes that do not apply to BlackBerry devices.
Not entirely sure why.
It's possible that this won't work and the user will need to call the carrier.
