Default Gps questions...

My carrier (att) offers a $10 gps service, but I was under the impression that gps service was free to use as a taxpayer but you were paying for the use of the maps.

Is this true? Or is there anywhere that offers free gps services?

With the AT&T 8310, you're free to use any GPS application you'd like.
Telenav (AT&T navigator) is probably the best thing out there. but it's $9.95 a month.
There's many other free GPS nav applications out there, which you could also try.

Have a look in the GPS and Mapping forum for many suggestions.

This is a great starting point:

You are correct that GPS is 'free' (well, we all pay taxes).

For $10, AT&T will hook you up with TeleNav... a GPS based navigations service... but for free you could use Goggle Maps, Windows Live Search or any of a number of other 'free' GPS mapping services. TeleNav includes voice navigation vs the visual only navigation of Google Maps or the others.

EDIT: wow, you have to be pretty quick around here or someone will beat you to the answer

Nope. No charges at all, outside of your phone plan and data plan charges.
